zaino topped with p21s

Well I have to say my car definitely looked to have a 'richer' color. I even got my first ever 'looks really great' comments right after applying teh p21s, could be coincidence but I do wash my car plenty in this lot for my neighbors to notice it.

As for the musings on why top a polymer, I just see it as a way to ensure that your paint has the best protection possible, while still being able to 'play' with the car on the weekend.

I hope that makes sense, thats just how I see it. It was not any work at all to apply the p21s anyways, and it really looks great now, so I'm glad I did it.

That's the hold point of topping. Personally satisfaction , be it real or imagined. Also just tinkering ( waxing, QD'ing, engine detailing, etc) with the cars on the week-ends and evenings is very therapeutic to me.

I wrote a thread about 9 months ago about why I started to experiment with toppers. Basically, I stated that the sealant shine was great and maintainance was sooo minimal (Z7 wash and Z6 QD) that I was bored. What I discovered was that I was not only bored because of the fact that Zaino retained is luster but to my surprise actually bored by its lack of "passion" that an oily short-lived carnuaba gives the appearance on my black cars. To me there is "passion" in a car's finish. I seek that passion and if it shines like the dickens - great.:wavey

I seem to remember something from Sal that wax over Zaino actually caused the Z to break down faster. Long time ago and that might have changed by now. I did put Souveran over Blackfire, but that was because the BF shine was not lasting for more than a couple of washes.

Zaino seems to last a really long time and without a topper. The shine is excellent (could be different with a topper but not much better). The problem of having to remove the wax to add more layers of Z makes using a topper silly IMHO. Just add another layer of Z if the shine is fading slightly. I have been through pretty much all of the combinations of sealants, waxes etc. and have settled into Zaino. 3 layers of z5 and 1 or 2 layers of Z2...depends on my mood and my back... Easy to apply and maintain and durability is unbeatable at this time.

Finished the Mustang this weekend so now all four of my cars are Z'd. I should get a group discount!

Nice to see you again bigboyhf. :wavey

You remembered correctly. Topping any synthetic (not just Z) with a caranuba, or glaze for that matter, will cause it to degrade more quickly. The solvent content in caranubas/glazes attacks the synthetics and will break it down over time.

The shine of Z was not doing it for me at all. A carnuba just looks a lot better. I'd be suprised if a non cleansing wax breaks down Z, but if it does, it's still worth. Z is very boring by itself.

The first time I saw Zaino on a car, I was not very impressed either. Then I proceded to try just about everything on the market and combinations thereof. I took into account, application, maintenance, overall look/shine etc. While there are other products that will produce a different type of shine that may be very desireable for say a concours show, these products are very short lived in their protection and shine.

I will admit that after spending the better part of a year trying all these products, weekend after weekend (and during the week too...I don't work :nixweiss ), I have found that Zaino takes one weekend per 6 months to achieve what I personally have been looking for. Great shine and durability, easy to use. With four cars to maintain, I guess this was my goal. I can't say that some of the other product combo's were not slightly superior in the wet look, but after one of my cars was involved in a minor accident and repaired and repainted, I noticed that the Zaino'd portion of the car looked IDENTICAL to the brand new clear coat. So if a freshly painted car, without any external products applied is your goal in looks, Zaino does the job. I will say that it is imperative to prep your surface so that the clear coat is fresh and clean of swirls and scratches or you will be dissapointed with any product you choose. All of the other products do modify that look from its original state...I like Souveran particularly in that respect as it gives it a buttered turkey look! Yummy! In addition to the sealants, Zaino's other products happen to top my lists in their own departments. ie. Z14 Tire gloss, glass polish, clay, Z6 QD, Z7 car wash etc. I have several shelves of other products but find myself going back to the Zaino line almost every time. The only place I find Z products less desireable is in the interior, though I have not tried their leather conditioner which I am told is excellent. I use Leatherique instead. I also use Hi Intensity on my wheels and carpets for cleaning and Eagle One window cleaner. Also use Aquapel on windshields. Can't remember any other list toppers at the moment, but these have found their way to the top of my lists after lots of money and time testing the others. There are lots of products that are pretty close, but IMHO these are the list toppers. Oh and if you don't have a few dozen microfiber cloths and a few Big Blue drying towels, you are totally lost! A PC or rotary is a good investment as well for prep work...
