Sorry this topic was covered so many time but I'm kinda confused.

well I have so many layers of Z2/Z5 but I see some swirls on the paint and it bugs me. so I'm planning to remove swirls.

1. Should I remove zaino with dawn soap? or use SMR directly on current paint?.

2. for swirl remover, should I get SMR or meg #9? I will be doing it by hand, I understand that it's tough & hard to get good result but I'll spend some time. (where can I get #9 at local? target?)

3. After swirl removal, what should I use? I hear P21S GEPC(what is it? i couldn't find in Acronyms..sorry) + IHG but is GEPC necessary? I was thinking just to get IHG, any comments?

4. now main question, I hear so many good review on S100 so I want to try. should I apply Zaino at all? then apply S100? when should I use SEPC (is it same as Shine-enhancing Cleanser?)

thanks for your help :p I need EFHI so it's good time to get from CMA.

Dawn will not remove Zaino, it will weaken it a little, but it won't remove it. SMR will remove the Zaino.

#9 is easier to use by hand (from what I hear). And you're right, it will take a long time to get results. If you have really bad swirls, you might have to use something more agressive. You can get #9 from Pep Boys or most auto parts stores. CMA also has it.

If you are going to use Zaino, I wouldn't recommend any of these products because of a bonding problem, especially with the IHG. If not, you can use the GEPC (Gloss Enhancing Paintwork Cleanser). It will lightly polish the surface. If you want to use both the GEPC and IHG, use the GEPC first, followed by the IHG.

You can use Zaino before S100, but you won't be able to layer z2/z5 anymore. I believe Zaino doesn't recommend this with any product. I'm not saying you shouldn't, as lots of people have done this. IMO, either go straight Zaino, or straight S100. The S100 SEPC (Shine-enhancing paintwork cleanser) is the same thing as the P21S GEPC

I hope this answers your questions!

:)

thx, tkr.

I think I'm going to try S100 for this spring. and if I dont like it, come back Zaino again.

I said earlier that I was going to use SMR or Swirl Free with hand but I am now planning to get PC near soon (if I make enough $$).

so meanwhile I'm wondering either SEC or GEPC will remove swirls. If that's the case, I'll apply SEC/S100 for now to see if the swirl will be gone. If not I'll get PC to remove the swirl.

one more thing, I need help on ordering from CMA.

I wanna order over $75 so I can get free shipping but not sure what else I should get.

So far I'm planning to get those:

- Eimann Fabrik Hi-Intensity Cleaner ($19.95)

- scratch remover (3m SMR: $11.95, Meguiar's No. 9 Swirl Remover: $8.75), they dont have "swirl free".

- S100 Shine-enhancing Cleanser($8.95)

- S100 ($14.95)

total so far: $52.6

any suggestion?

Does IHG do the same purpose as SEC/GEPC? should I get it too?

I have used IHG, megs no7 and megs hand polish over GEPC and they all make the paint look deeper and wetter, IHG seems like hard work compared to boths megs hand poish ( my fist choice) or Show car glaze ( no 7). The extra glaze step is worth it but consider the other two rather than IHG.

If you are planning on getting a PC, might as well order the pads and backing plate now. Get at least 2 white and 2 yellow along with the 6" backing plate (will run about $55). You can get their kit for $75, but it comes with a bunch of bonnets and a wool and gray pad which I don't use, and you only get one yellow pad. Up to you.

Autopia is doing me again, I'm going to get PC :)

I just check the review of PC7424, it says: "This polisher is not designed for heavy compounding and will not do well removing swirls" I"m confused, I thoguht 7424 is recommended for removing the swirl.

Should I get 7428?

Is this good idea to get Used PC or brand new pc?

If I can get cheaper for used one, I rather go for that way. (I dont have job yet :( )

CMA has PC ultimate detailing machine for like $149 and 7424 BASIC forl ike $129, what's the difference?

I'm getting excited to use PC :D

My PC removes swirls perfectly .....

To be honest theyre just a safe version of a rotary.

I wouldnt try cutting fresh paint back with one but for swirl removal and general polishing theyre brilliant.

The "basic" is just the PC while the "ultimate" comes with their 6" velcro backing plate and their white polishing pad. I think it's a $26 value. If you are already ordering other stuff from CMA to get the free shipping, get the 7336sp from Lowes for $109.

Michael

ok, I'm getting better about PC :).

Question though, I understand 7336 from lowes is cheaper $109, but if I end up getting backing plate and pads from CMA, their ultimate detailing machine for like $149 will be around same price?

any 7336sp and 7336 difference?

edit I found the answer myself :)

7336: Called a "sander" by Porter Cable, includes a 6" counterweight and 6" sanding pad, P/N 16000

7336SP: Sander/Polisher, includes plastic carrying case, 6" counterweight, 6" sanding pad, and 6" polishing pad, P/N 54745

I ordered s100 and SEC from CMA and I'll prolly get 7336 from Lowes.

Now I'm deciding which one I should use for removing swirls.

DACP, Swirl Free, 3M SMR, #9, and IHG..

I read that in order of aggressiveness: DACP, SMR, Swirl Free, but I'm not sure which product to get. I have a 10yrs black car. It is zainoed for 1.5 yr and I can see the swirl under the light.

I heard that DACP and IHG are hard to use(?).

Any suggestion? since I already ordered from CMA, I'll prolly pick it up from local store.

Thanks

Try the swirl free first i would say, i would give ihg a miss and get yourself some megs handpolish.

DACP is actually really to use. It breaks down fairly quickly to a finer polish and doesn't leave hazing that must be followed by a SMR. Depending on the paint condition and how you work the product, you could go from DACP straight to wax. I've only used it with a PC and yellow pad, but scottwax seems to have great success with it by hand as well.

I've heard that IHG can be picky about how it's applied, but I have no first hand experience. It won't remove your swirls though, just cover them up. If you are using DACP (or other polish), and following up with SEC which is basically also a glaze, you should be covered. Just follow up with the S100 and it should look great.

Be sure to take some before and after pics.

I got s100 sec, wax but since I haven't purchased PC (I have pads :P), I just applied them without refining paint surface (no DACP, SMR etc..) for my first time.

it was so easy to apply and the result was great. I'll put my Zaino aside for this season and continue using S100.

now I got questions, how long do I need to wait to buff off sec and wax?

For SEC, I just applied on one area and buff off and move on to next area.

For S100 wax, I applied on whole body, and buff it off entirely.

any tips? should I wait longer?

last thing, I noticed that it does attract dust as much as Zaino. probably it's just my parking area..

I apply GEPC (same as SEC) with a PC w/white pad and really work it into a single panel for a few minutes, then buff and move to another panel. I do the same for the S100 Wax (minus the PC) one panel at a time, then buff. No need to let it set, almost wipe on wipe off.

Just did my Passat that way a few days ago......Now it's covered in pollen.
