Zaino Question

After reading a ton on durability and shine, I've decided to use Zaino.



The question is why do I need Z1 if I've never used the Z system before? (According to the Zaino site, Z1 must be used if first time using Z products.)



Heres what I was planning:

a. Wash with Dawn

b. Dry with WW

c. Polish with PB SSR1/SSR2 w/7424

d. Wipe/Clean with MF Towels

e. Apply Z2 Pro

f. Wipe with MF and Z6



It this acceptable or do I need to add Z1 before the Z2.



Paint is black in new condition.

Yes, you need either Z1 or ZFX for Zaino to work properly.



Also, I don't know if the SSR's have fillers or not, but if so, you will need to do a wash to after the polish to remove them and allow the Z to bond. Not that this is necessarily the way is has to be, but I personally would wash with a regular wash, do my polishing, then wash with Dawn, then go to your Z2/ZFX (or Z1).
 
Zanio Z-1 has pretty much been superceded



The polymers do not require a lengthy cross-link (cure) time as ZFXâ„¢ is formulated to accelerate the time requirements. Z-2â„¢ produces the most gloss of the two synthetic waxes (although theyâ€â„¢re labelled as polishes) it is more optically clear then Z-5â„¢ and will highlight any surface imperfections, whereas Z-5 will â€Ëœhideâ€â„¢ very minor surface imperfections with fillers. Z-3â„¢ is a â€Ëœpolishâ€â„¢ for single stage (non-clear coated) paint.

I was thinking of claying but wasn't sure if it was required for new cars. My paint feels smooth all around.



What do you recommend for a brand?

Z1 or ZFX.



Z2 / Z5. To get the proper bonding of Zaino to the paint, the first layer and every 8 - 10th layer there in should have the bonding agent added to the process.



Z2Pro. ZFX can still be used as Sal states that ZFX helps not only in the curing time but also to the look and durability of Zaino. However, considering it's cost and the fact most Autopians will be applying Zaino every couple of months (at the longest), skipping ZFX may be fine.



Personallyl, I'll probably using Z1 more, now that Z2 Pro is out. Once my current supply of Z2 runs out (probably a years worth), I'll buy Z2Pro and simply use Z1 every 8th coat. The cost per coat will be very cheap and best of all, no more mixing. I hate cleaning those little bottles.



Plus, I always felt like a fool spending $30 CDN on 20 drops worth of fluid!!!



I'm curious to see what this Spray Sealant is like... I'd rather spend money on the spray sealant to provide added protection then ZFX.



I envision my Zaino arsenal as being:



Z1 / Z2Pro (no more ZFX)

Z6 - QD

Z8? - Spray Sealant

Z16 - Tire Protectant

Z18 - Clay



If only Sal would finally release his Swirl remover, all would be well in the world. A S100 SEC / Vanilla Moose type product would really compliment the line nicely.

Clay with z18

use the Z1 and put the Z2 Pro on top.

kompressornsc, great tip on the reg wash, polish and then dawn wash. I'm sure you saved me a ton of time and frustration.

Think of it this way.



Get the surface as good as you get can get it with clay and polish.

Give it one final rinse with Car Wash (or Dawn if you really want to stick to the Zaino rule book)

Apply Z1 which helps Zaino Z2 or Z5 bond to the finish.

Apply Z2 or Z5 directly over the Z1 (don't wipe off Z1).



Now, if you decide you are willing to spend the dough on ZFX. ZFX helps Z2/Z5 bond to the finish and also accelerates the bonding and cure times. Therefore, you can skip the Z1 step if you use Z2 mixed with ZFX.



Z2Pro that just became available has been improved, such that the cure times has been greatly improved. You don't necessarily need ZFX any longer, but Sal still recommends it as it is so supposed so still give it an extra umph.

Please expand on this, I would think that the reverse would be true, but then, I guess I would clay anyway. Since I first used clay, I wouldnt polish without claying first. I am just curious as to why a new car would require claying moreso than an older vehicle would.

I'm like you Paco and the $30 .. I'll go Z1 /Z2Pro now. I have a little ZFX left for my inital spring polish out then it will be Z1/Z2Pro.



I found it a PITA when I had to buff a mar out of a panel then try and mix up only enough Z2/ZFX to do the panel. I think Z1/Z2 Pro

would be better in this scenareo.



That reminds me I need to reorder .. and the buggers don't ship Parcel Post any more so I get hooped on the frieght too.

Can I apply the Zaino with a PC 7424 or do it by hand? (its a quad cab truck which usually kills me by the end of the day rubbing on it over and over and over).



One last question: if it is best to apply the Zaino by hand, MF applicators are ok?



Sorry for all of the questions but I'm fairly excited to start detailing :)
 
PC is okay with a finishing pad and slightly moisten with Z6

MF application pad is my pad and method of choice.



Either method will work and should use equal amounts of polish. :xyxthumbs

Doh! I would have gotten the ZFX instead of the Z1.



It's soooo easy and fast to add multiple coats in one day! :xyxthumbs



You'll love Zaino either way, though.
 
I thought about that but the real deal is that I've spent a ton already on the SSR1, SSR2, the 7424, Sonus Pad kit, MF and WW towels, MF and Terry Applicators, Sonus Clay and lube, Paint Chip Repair Kit (Mothers), MEGS Paint Cleaner, Sonus Leather Conditioner, Sheepskin Wash Mitt, and a $74 tank of gas so I can drive around after I get her cleaned up and polished. (Almost sounds like a Mastercard commercial).



All that in just this week alone.



Was thinking about the need to eat also. I know; those crazy thoughts that pop up every once in awhile.



Felt that if I wanted to do Zaino with the few dollars I have left, I could deal with the Z1 plus Z2 pro.



Before I came to Autopia, I was using Megs 3 step system and sometimes Liquid Glass (just does not seem to last long at all) and cheap towels. I could also eat like a king....but I'd still have swirls and a lackluster looking new truck to drive.



Hopefully what I have bought will do the trick.



Damn, I still need tire and trim dressing.
