Zaino question

Hi,

I'm going to do the full Zaino-process on thursday. After Z-PC I would like to applay a few layers of Z-5 before the Z-2Pro. My problem is that I am out of Z-5 and can't seem to get any in time. So my question is, what happens if I apply one layer of Z-2 Pro just to give the paint at least some protection after the Z-PC and if I then later would apply some Z-5 ?

Is the Z-5 totally useless if applied AFTER Z-2 ? I know Z-5 should be applied first but given this situation I can't seem to do it this way..

What are my options ?

1. Do it this way with Z-2 first and then later on some Z-5 ? Stupid idea ?

2. Just skip Z-5 and go for Z-2 Pro ? (The car is a Lightning Blue Saab 9-3 Viggen)

3. Do the car with Z-PC and then wait for a week untill I can get my hands on Z-5 ?

4. Something else ?

Thanks a lot in advance !

You can apply the Z2PRO after polishing with Z-PC Fusion until your Z5 arrives. Absolutely no problem. Both Z2 and Z5 can be interchanged without effecting the function of either product.

When the Z5 arrives just apply a few layers over the Z2PRO and than top with Z2PRO if you desire.

Welcome to Autopia!!! :2thumbs:

You can and should go ahead and apply the Z2, and wait for the Z5. Since the Z2 and Z5 are interchangeable, you can apply as many coats of Z5 later as you wish, and will still get all the benefits of its filling capabilities.

I found that after applying Z PC Fusion with a PC, I had no swirl marks or anything else that would benefit from Z5, so I went with 5 or 6 coats of Z2 and it looks great (and it's a black car).

Ok, thanks a lot guys !

I know they are interchangeable but was just thinking if I would not get the benefits of Z-5 if I had applied Z-2 first.

So this is a relief and in that case I can wait for Z-5 PRO to arrive, since actually I want to use that instead of "plain" Z-5 :)

And it's not that much the filling capabilities of the Z-5 I'm interested in, but the fact that people say it's supposed to maybe give that little extra kick on a dark coloured car.

But I'm going to do 1-3 layers of Z-2 Pro right after Z-PC and add a few layers of Z-5 Pro when I get my hands on it.

I've been reading the forum for quite a while now but my first post didn't come until now ;P

All of that is fine, but be sure that eventually your top layers are Z2, not Z5, ESPECIALLY on a dark color.

And get some (relatively new) Z8 while you are at it.

Yeah, I was definately going to finnish off with Z-2 Pro, no doubt !

I just want some Z-5 in there too since my car is a pretty dark blue. And I've got some Z-8 waiting also so that bit is covered as well.

Thanks again for your inputs !

Whats wrong with Z5Pro on top? Ive heard it looks great on dark colored cars.

Z5 has some fillers of sorts to hide swirl marks (a little). Z2 is optically perfect (or at least closer to optically perfect than Z5) and gives a higher reflectivity than Z5.

Sal Zaino always recommends, and I'm sure this is in the directions on his web pages, to use Z2 after Z5 for the highest gloss.

One measure of how good Z5 is, however, is that you don't need to put a coat or two of Z2 over it and it still looks great. Z2 just makes it "even more better."

Ive always been told Z5pro has a wetter, deeper look, while Z2 gives a more reflective. Id prefter wetness on dark colors.

But I don't think that by applying Z-2 over Z-5 you would loose the "wetness" ?! You will still have the wetness given by Z-5 and just adding more qualities with the Z-2.

Or am I completly wrong here ?

It would just seem pointless to add Z-5 under Z-2 if applying Z-2 would weaken the effects of Z-5 :nixweiss

This is from the application instructions on the Zaino web pages (www.zainostore.com); as noted above, the Zaino recommendation is always to finish with a coat of Z2 on top:

9. You can switch to Z-2 PRO as soon as you are happy with the way the paint finish looks. Example, no more swirls, scratches etc. It's up to you. Z-2 PRO has higher optical properties than Z-5. You can go from Z-2 PRO to Z-5 and then back to Z-2 PRO as often as you want. Z-2 PRO and Z-5 are 100% compatible and interchangeable. You should always end with Z-2 PRO as the last coat because of its higher optics.
