Respectfully Mike, you state that you have had durability without using ZFX or Z1. I believe this is a aberration rather than the norm.
No problem Edwin, I'm just going to disagree with you on this, specifically on using Z2 Pro with no ZFX and on principle! :lol
When I first tested application of Z2 Pro without ZFX, I only tested a square of paint on the hood of my Pilot that measured about 18" by 18" and I did it just for fun. After noticing just how well this application method not recommended by Zaino worked, I decided to test it on the hood of my Accord. I'm only three weeks into this test but so far the results seem very similar to my first test, the Z2 Pro is holding up very well.
I haven't really concluded anything from these results except that in the short term, applying Z2 Pro without ZFX worked fine on well prepped Honda clearcoat and that Z2 Pro, even without ZFX performs better and outlasts some other sealants often discussed here on Autopia. Only time will tell what the eventual outcome will be of my testing. I fully intend to run the test until the Z2 Pro exhibits signs of failing, I'll report back then.
On the importance of investigating aberrations, I wonder where we would be if the first cavemen hadn't noticed the aberration that striking certain types of rock together caused sparks and that these sparks could start a fire. Or if the guy that invented Velcro just looked at his trousers and said "thatâ€â„¢s a funny how certain kinds of seeds stick to fabrics ... naaaa .. Itâ€â„¢s just an aberration! Or if Flemming hadn't take an interest in the penicillin mold that had infected one of his staphyloccus cultures? Full investigation of aberrations if often the "mother of invention", when we ignore aberrations we lose out, simple as!
To bring the discussion a little closer to our Autopian home, not too long in support of using Dawn as a "one off" car wash you posted this:-
"I guess I also should save my vinegar (water spots) for my salads, Bon Ami (great glass cleaner/polisher for the kitchen porcelain, oil (glazes, and carnauba) for my crankcase and salads again, Woolite for my delicate clothing"
My point is that Autopia is all about experimenting, noticing aberrations, improving on manufacturers guidelines where possible, in fact, doing just about anything to improve the final results of our detailing. Take that thirst for excellence away from Autopia and it would quickly become a very boring forum!
Iâ€â„¢m not recommended the use of Z2 Pro without ZFX or Z1, Iâ€â„¢m just raising a flag on what I consider to be some very interesting results Iâ€â„¢ve experienced. My hope is that a few other Autopians with enquiring minds will follow and report their findings. Until they do, I do to think anyone can call my results of using Z2 Pro without XFX an aberration as suchâ€Â¦ just an application method which is not promoted by the manufacturer.
Enough said!
