And just what did your experiments reveal? My personal experience with Zaino on my black 911 revealed that Zaino acts like a magnet for dust.

I found that the product used had little or no direct effect on dust attraction. The primary factor that directly related to dust attraction was the static charge carried by the paint.



Different products work best with somewhat different buffing/removal techniques, and some of these techniques generate more static charge than other techniques. Light and rapid rubbing (as is often used with Zaino) generates a stronger static charge than heavier and slower rubbing (as is often used with carnaubas). The same technique and product will generate a larger charge on a cold dry day than on a warm humid day. Some MF towels seems to be more prone to generating static charges than other MF towels.



I usually wash my MF towels in a batch of 15-25 towels. When I take them out of the dryer there are some that obviously have a strong charge and others that appear to have no static charge. For awhile I was marking each high charge towel with a Sharpie pen, but I soon found out that at the next wash/dry it would be different towels that had the high charge. Didn’t pursue the problem enough to learn anything.



Misting the buffing/removal towel with a little QD goes a long way in reducing the static charge and the dust attraction. I found that doing a QD wipedown after buffing usually reduces or eliminates the static charge on the paint. My highly scientific and extremely accurate method of measuring static charge is too move my arm near the paint surface and focus on the pulling of my arm hairs.



On really hot sunny days carnauba attracts a little more dust than any of the synthetics. My assumption is that the high surface temps soften the wax enough to let it trap more dust.
