Z8 vs. AJT as topper?

I'm not contradicting anything. One person (not me) is claiming Z8 is longer lasting. I am saying both Z8 and AW offer pretty similar and comparable durability, therefore they are very comparable. I said nothing contradictory there. I am merely questioning someone else's claim of Z8's durability. I think you misinterpreted my posts.

Sorry if I did Mike. My apologies.

I read the last post to state that Z8 was being compared to AW as stand-alone products. AW would win this unfair battle. As Diesel stated apples and oranges...

I don't think it's an "unfair battle" to compare the durability of AW and Z8 in the context of this post (use of toppers over sealants).

The person who initiated this thread was interested in a good topper to use on top of other products/sealants. However, just because we are talking about toppers doesn't mean that the issue of the durability of the topper itself is a moot point. Many of us, myself included, are interested in toppers that can provide the maximum durability - even if they are being applied over another very durable true sealant.

After all, the more durable a topper is, the longer it will be before the underlying sealant starts to break down/erode. Or to put it another way - the topper provides a "sacrificial lamb" against the elements and forces acting on/against our other underlying paint protection, and the longer the topper lasts the better for that purpose.

If AW and Z8 provide about the same durability, or if AW provides more durability than Z8 - that is one salient factor (along with many others like gloss, slickness, price, etc.) to consider in making an informed decision about which topper will best fit the needs and circumstances of each potential purchaser.

Z8 - Specifically meant to stay with Zaino line up with Sealant beneath it like Z5 or CS.

AW - Cheaper, but many have said it's one of the top Spray Booster Sealants on the market. More versatile, again use it over a Sealant!

Really? Dilute Z8 that much without effecting it's durability? With distilled water, right?

Yeah, I think there have been a couple threads about it in the past. I have my bottle diluted 1:1 and it works great.

I agree with thesacrifice--I think AJT is a different type of product since it's meant as a stand-alone sealant, not a booster. Maybe a better comparison would be with Acrylic Glos.

If I weren't using Z8, then yeah I would probably substitute AW for it.

I have both and use both often on different makes, models, and colors. On a plain car not prepped and not protected Z8 is very durable by itself and will bead like hell for 3-6 weeks. AW is a close runner up in looks, but it does lose it's beading faster in 2 weeks on an unprotected surface. Z8 is a very strong product and does need to be diluted a tad.

I had a car that I was driving and the wipers were spearing in the rain so bad that I could not see. I sprayed some Z8 on the winshiels and put on the wipers and it started beading great like rain-x for 3 weeks of constant friction. It worked!

Thanks guys for the discussion. Mind you I'm looking for a topper which provides LONG LASTING LOOKS, not so much protection (I think 3 coats of ZFX Z5 over AIO will take care of protection heh)
