Z5/Z2 Vs. AJT

Yet another option if you're going to take up Picus' CJ/OCW suggestion is Prime Carnauba, which I think adds a little more depth than either of the other two and serves as a good complimentary base for carnauba toppers.

If you need lots of cleaning power though, I'd probably still go with Prime Strong.

Carlack uses a finer, nano-composition in the Prime. Still lightly abrasive, but less than the original AIO. But there is Prime Strong which has a hair more bite than the original AIO. They are intended primarily for cleaning, not for defect removal.

...

Thanks for that comparison to the original AIO. I'm still trying to determine whether to go with the basic Prime or Prime Strong product, but you have given me a base from which to work with, that I have not read before.:xyxthumbs

I did a search, and this post has got me concerned,

"I tell ya what, prime acrylic sure does take some paint off.

Have been tinkering with a single stage red falcon for the past few weeks and when I used acrylic with edge white pad, it took more paint off than clearkote VM or even blackfire SRC 3000. Pad was saturated with paint whereas VM just has the centre of the pad spotted with red flakes.

It's like I polished it with a 2000 grit polish and edge green"

Anyone have any experience similiar to this? Is this what it would do to clearcoat?

All Prime was removing was dead oxidized paint, that is normal. AIO was also a very effective oxidation removal. Don't worry at all, your clear coat is a lot harder than a layer of dead, oxidized single stage paint.

Ah, that is interesting. So other AIO paint cleaners like Klasse AIO or SRP would do the same to single stage paint?

Yes, but as AIO, SRP is conatining an abrasive package in it. It is armed with aluminum oxide powder.

Back to the 845 question; I think that 845 uses a mix of traditional solvents (naphta - combustibility) and volatile silicones also, because these are helpful to provide excellent spreadability/lubrication. 845 is the best spreading product IME. It may clean *a bit* as it always produces a very uniform coverage, it build a beautifully continuous film and it is practically not sensitive to the underlying coats. Its solvents perform wonderful wetting (nothing to do with wetness), but I highly doubt that it will fully destroy the crosslinked layer(s) of AJ/AJT. It can compromise it though.

Ok, I just purchased the regular Prime and AJT. One silly question, or two, can the Prime be used on everything from badges/emblems to plastic trim, windows and exhaust tips like AIO can? And the sealant? Thanks.

From the JW site:

"While not suitable for porous and rough plastic, Prime will not stain trim. Excess should be wiped off immediately, though."

Kind of confusing ain't it......

The old z5 didn't fill much, the new one does a bit more for me. AJT doesn't seem to have any filling ability at all. I use Prime on paint, glass, and plastic headlights/rear lamps, but not on trim.

Z5Pro only has enough filling capacity for very tiny finish imperfections. It will NOT fill scratches or cover up a poor prep.

Z5Pro's greatest filling feature is that it will fill marring that may be induced by washing and QD'ing between major polishing sessions. This marring is mainly in the protectant (sealant) layer and the Z5Pro fills and hides them very well.

Zaino sealants are safe for smooth trim, rims, glass, lights, exterior rubber seals etc. No staining at all and actually protects these items.
