Z5 doesn't reflect like other Polymers...

Don't begin a flame war, just wanted to get some attention here :p

If I stood by 30 feet from my car with wax, Klasse or Platinum I could see myself in the paint and everything behind me, it was like a mirror.

With the Z5, when I stand back 30 feet my car is red, just plain red, it's not like a mirror. However, if I get close to the paint (5 feet) then I see everything behind me.

It's almost like the Z5 has 0 depth, it is all surface shine. Very hard to explain but it is weird; at least for me. Any of you guys notice this?

How will Z2 shine? Will I get that "wax depth"?

Z5 is not designed to have "ultimate" shine. It is designed to fill in swirl marks. You should always finish with Z2 (or Z3 for nonclearcoat paint) to get maximum shine. The Z2 and Z3 have much better optical qualities than Z5. Z5 is kind of a specialty product to remove swirls, not a final shine product.

Too bad it doesn't do the job its supposed to. If Z5 is really designed to "remove swirls" and "fill in swirl marks" its the worst product of its kind available, IMO. If you need to remove swirls, use a swirl mark remover.

bretfraz - I've had great luck using Z5. I have detailed many cars and Z5 has removed many swirl marks for me. Granted, if the swirls are very deep, you need to resort to a product like 3M 39009 Foam Pad Polish. But I like the fact that Z5 is non-abrasive so there's no threat of scrubbing off the clearcoat. You have to be very careful using Foam Pad Polish, Finesse, etc.

Again, these are just my personal experiences using Z5.

I have to agree, the z5 is definitely wanting. Especially considering that swirls are highlighted with zaino if not prep right (I would use an extra step/better product to remove/hide the swirls).

I couldn't see any difference in my very light swirl marks with Z5 either. I also couldn't tell the difference between Z2 and Z5. The "Z" reflectivity was certainly there, though...

If you don't like the Zaino Z5 shine, it's likely that you don't like the shine of your own paint, too. Take some isopropyl alcohol and wipe down half of the Zaino'd hood.

I doubt that the squeaky-clean alcohol side will be any deeper or less reflective than the Zaino side. I'm not saying you're B.S.'ing, but what we hear sometimes affects what we see.

Try it! :)

You are right, that's why I'm caught up in this never ending quest for the perfect shine. Something to complement that wonderful Chevrolet paint I have.

I really hurt the hood with that dust, I'm going to try some more Z2 and Z5 on the hood, if it doesn't work it's back to square one with SMR and re-layering.

Damn dust.
