Last one I swear guys for today.

What's the best way to go about taking care of the Z24 rims? Product/technique

I have been cleaning with car soap and hot water and then top coating with #26.

However, getting all the brake dust/tar has been a challenge with a true cleaner.

I believe they are painted aluminum with clear coat.

Thanks!

I use Klasse on my rims, and it seems to keep some of the crap off of them. I'm not sure if mine are clear coated, but I'm guessing they are. The surface is pebbly aluminum.

If you're getting lots of brake dust, you may want to check into different brake pads next time. I replaced the front pads on a car I owned a few years back, and immediately started getting a bunch of black powdery crap. I thought that maybe this would go away with time, but after several weeks it wasn't any better. So, I bought some $50 pads from an import supply shop and never had any dust problems afterwards.

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing that if the OEM pads on a car originally didn't make dust, then buying replacemtn OEMs would be a good choice.

What product(s) do you use to Clean your rims? Soapy water only or do you use a commerical cleaning product designed specifically for rims?

I don't want to strip or etch the rims of the clearcoat. A friend of my has pitting occuring on his 3 year old rims and I would like to avoid that as much as possible.

Granted in Windsor were he lives, the industrial fallout from the big 3 etc. is absolutely insane. Also, he lives near the country so dirt roads are commonly driven on.

The AC Delco pads aren't that bad. It's just getting the 3 year build up off my girlfriends rims as she bought the car used. On my mom's were I have been using #26 on them, the brake dust is not an issue. I hear the Chrysler pads tend to be a bit worse.

Thanks,

Paco

clean and you should not have to use a cleaner that often.I have silver painted clear coat rims and never clean with anything but soapy water.:up

Eimann Fabrik Hi-Intensity Cleaner is great for cleaning wheels and tires. Clean the wheels with HI, and then seal them up with your favorite sealant. After that they should come clean with your normal car wash shampoo for the duration of the sealant.

I just wash my rims whenever I wash my truck -- with Meguiar's Gold Class auto shampoo. I used some off-the-shelf wheel cleaner on my last car's rims, and I think it ruined the finish.

Hot soapy (Dawn) H2O, some Greased Lighting for the stubborn spot, a wheel cleaning brush ( toothbrush for those tight stops, and a good sealant (Zaino or Klasse) or any non-cleaning carnuba (#26) . I use #26 on my wheels even though I use sealant (Zaino) on my paint. I also wipe my rims down after every use of the car. This way the brake dust never gets a chance to make itself at home. If the clear coat is already worn of destroyed by improper care you might think about re-clear coating and than seal or wax. Hope this helps.

Paco, I think you've gotten the jist of this thread. Abandon the #26 as it has carnauba in it. And though carnaubas shine wonderfully on paint, they're not that durable. Try something more durable for your wheels such as Zaino, Klasse, Meguiar's #20, etc....
