meg's 21 is great, but i find it really "stains" my pads..



question: how are you applying the 50/50 mix ? pouring them both out into another container and then apply to the panel ? I'm really dying to try it. I'm gonna be using Mez PG this weekend, and would definitely go with the Opt 50/50 mix instead of Opt Compound, then Polish separately.
 
i dont have any Optimum compound, but I do have some OHC. How would a 75/25 mix of OP and OHC work? Any ideas Scott? :bigups

I "have" to use my pc to get an even coat - otherwise I am buffing extra big time. :D





Hmm, I apply it by hand via a black magic *or* Meguiars foam applicator. For a car of this size I would only "load" the applicator twice--once at the beginning, and once half way around. I apply it like zaino--thin, thin, thin. If you are seeing the little "droplets" of the product (they look like water beads), then there is way too much product on the applicator. Also, I use *a lot* less pressure on the applicator when I first load it with product, as I make my way around the car I use increasing amounts of pressure to "squeeze" the excess product out. If you use a lot of pressure when you first load the applicator, it will be applied *way* too thick. Another thing to note is that if the product stays on too long, it can become a *little* more difficult to remove and or streak. I find that in ambient temperatures (55-70 degrees) that 15-20 minutes of set up time is perfect. Did any of that make sense? :D



Tumbler, yep just as Scott said, just pour equal parts into a new container. I transfer almost all of my products to 8oz yorker style bottles anyways--makes them easier to dispense *and* easier to carry.

Thanks for explaining your initial application of #21 above...When you say *2* thin coats though, when do you add the second one?

I apply the second coat directly after applying the first. I apply it so thin that I like to ensure even coverage. Think UPP, Z2PRO, #16 thin. :D

Re: the Viper... Is that an LP tank in there with the N20 bottle??? We spray a LOT of propane (and nitrous) in our Diesels, but haven't seen propane on a gasser motor. I'm gonna have to research that one.

Your work is truly impeccable! I have been reading good things aout #21 and your pics confirm it. I just did my car with OP/AIO/NXT yesterday and I'll probably top it off with #21 after seeing and reading your results. Great job on all three cars!
 
On Megs website/and properautocare.com, it says that #21 has slight cleaning abilities-what do you think? Are you removing some of the first layer? Just curious as to what your experience has been.

How/What do you use to get the inside of the rim so clean? Looks great.



And 11 hours for both isn't bad - any time I have to pull out the Diamond cut, I figure I'm in for a minimum of 6 hours on that vehicle. Minimum!

Hey man, I use an EZ detail brush and typically an acid based wheel cleaner for the area behind the spokes. For thses details, I used an alkaline wheel called "magnum" with the EZ detail brush for agitation.

Well, I buy my wool pads locally so I am not familiar with the "boutique" wool pads.



I use the 1.5" pile twisted wool pads for heavy cutting, I believe they are 9", but I would prefer smaller.



I use the knitted wool pads for heavier polishing. IMO, thses pads will cut just a tad bit more than foam and will finish out to about the same level. I use them when I want a little more cut than foam, but do not want to deal with the "loading" that comes with the foam pads.



I use the wool/acrylic (synthetic) blended pads for the times in between.



You are right, they don't conform as well to contours. I usually just try to slow the pad down and give it a slight tilt when I need to buff in a tight area.

Also, #85 (even with a twisted wool pad) finishes down pretty nice (considering the defects that it removes), following up with OP and a polishing pad, then a pass with the PC (I need to this, you may be better with the rotary) and the finish will ready for LSP.

I find that the cleaning is so slight that it is not noticeable, It is defintely *not* a cleaner wax. Is it removing *some* of the first layer? I have no idea, I apply two coats for even coverage. One properly applied coat will look great and provide *very* good durability--there is no need to "layer" it IMO.
