Z-PC + 7424 on purple Mazda, still swirls

Last weekend I got to use my new 7424 for the first time on our swirled purple Mazda 3s:

With a green edge 2k pad + Z-PC I went to work. :waxing: Being a noob I had a bit of a hard time trying to determine pressure, duration and size of work area. I tried light & medium pressure, but the swirls would only budge a little:

(funny how purple the paint looks here, in comparison to the blueness of the first pic)

After a follow up with Blue 2k pad with Z-AIO, and Z-5Pro by hand, end result:

It looks like Z-PC is only strong enough for light swirl marks. I would like to see what product I could use on the green pad that could get rid of all the swirls. Do I need to go compound like Optimum Compound, or would a heavier swirl remover like XMT Intermediate Swirl Remover 3 do the job? (just throwing out random product names)

It could also have been faulty technique... I have a feeling I went too fast and tried to cover too much area with too much pressure.

Any suggestions you guys would be much appreciated!

All you need to do is step up from a finishing polish to a more aggressive polish. Try XMT 2, Optimum Polish, etc etc. :goodjob

I have recently used XMT 3 with an Orange LC pad and am unable to get about what I consider to be light swirls. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I am working the product very slowly in small areas 2x2 and am easily working it for 5+ minutes. Any ideas? Similar situation to Radian78.

I am not similiar with pad colors of all the brands out there (wish people would state type of pad) but you may need to try a cutting pad to the remove the deeper swirls and maybe a stronger polish. Follow with a polishing pad and finishing polish or AIO.

The combo in am using now is Z-PC (70%) mixed with EC(30%) (thanks GMBlack03) for the suggestion) with a cutting pad (Meg's burgundy) which does wonders on super hard Corvette clear. Finishing with ZAIO and polishing pad.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Yeah I should have mentioned that the Green 2k pad is a `medium cutting pad`.

There is just one pad in this product line that is more aggressive, Yellow.

Yesterday I thought hmmm maybe it is my technique that was wrong.

As it turns out... I think it was.

This time I took an area that was 2 sq ft, and actually set a timer to make sure I was working in the Z-PC long enough.

I used the Green (light cut) Edge pad with Z-PC for about 4-5 minutes, until the polish was fully worked in and almost invisible. I also used less pressure this time around, and went slower.

After wiping off the residue, I held a halogen lamp close to the paint... and could detect maybe 1 or 2 slight marks on the entire panel. The swirl marks had disappeared.

Conclusion: the first time I tried it, I went too fast, used too much pressure and tried to do too large of an area.

Next week I'm looking to do a friends 9 yr old black Honda Accord. I will use the same new technique, although I will experiment with what pad will work best.

I also would like to order some OC and OP, since those sound like good products to use if I need to step up from Z-PC.

Thanks! :thx

Hi, I am wondering how your subsequent use of Z-PC and DA worked out.

I just started with this DA and polish (Actually my DA arrived today.) Previously I was content with laying Zaino, Meguiars, on top of the swirls of my '97 BMW Black. Now I am detemine to get rid of those swirls. so I ordered the Z-PC and #9 from Meguiars. After continuing reading on the forum, I think those might be too light but we'll see this weekend.

webada, Is your BMW a 3 series? Not sure about the black, but the silver E36 M3 that Bret and I detailed had a very hard CC.
