Z Max

Just wondering if anyone has used Z Max engine and transmission treatment and what you think about it.

Personally, I don't feel like trying a product from a company, that was sued by the FTC to "...halt false and misleading advertising." Just MHO. :nono

Read The FTC Permanent Injunction for yourself:

http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/legal/zmaxcomp.html

In part it says:

"zMax Power System (“zMax) -- a package of three clear, beaker-shaped bottles of zMax brand aftermarket motor vehicle lubricant labeled “Oil Formula, “Fuel Formula, and “Transmission Formula. The liquid in each bottle is itself clear but tinged a different color for each “formula. Each of the three “formulas consists of 100% mineral oil with no active chemical additives."

"The CRC L38 test protocol, referenced in zMax advertisements, including, but not limited to, Exhibits 1 through 4, is a laboratory engine test protocol that has been accepted as an automotive industry standard only for purposes of measuring the bearing corrosion performance of motor oils. In February/March 1997, an independent laboratory performed two modified CRC L38 tests on behalf of Defendants -- one test on motor oil alone and the other on the same motor oil treated with zMax. In these tests, motor oil treated with zMax produced more than twice as much bearing corrosion than the motor oil alone (185.7 milligrams of bearing weight loss for the treated oil versus 74.1 milligrams for the untreated oil)."

Thanks for the info Sci-Fi. I'm not going to use Zmax. I'm going to use Tuf-Oil, a product I used in my 88 Blazer for many years. It has 150k miles on it and is still going strong.

Go with a Top Quality Synthetic (Mobile 1, Amsoil) and you'll be more than covered. Today's engines are built to such small tolerances that need for such additives are not required.

Dino Oil doesn't have the detergents and additives that Fully synthetic oils do so spend the extra few bucks and go fully syn.

Check out bobstheoilguy.com for some very very detailed information regarding oil.

You're money would be better spent and also better for your engine if you just test the motor oil at each interval and see what the wear rates are.

Once again, don't go putting anything in your oil. It'll only do more harm than good or nothing all (except maybe damage it like zmax).

Are you trying to put some oil additives in your Maxima?! Why?

Read your manual, I'm sure it recommends against it, you'll likely do more harm than good.

Like others said just use good quality synthetic oil (Mobil1 and Red Line are my favorite), good quality filters and keep manufacturer recommended intervals and your engine will outlast every other component in your car.
