Yuck!! I just felt my car this a.m. . . .

. . . and while it looks good (reflectivity, depth of shine, etc.) the surface felt dead. No problem, I thought. Started on the hood with Adams DS, still looked good, but no felt no better. So I dragged out all my other QD products - 4* UGE, Mullet Spray Wax, PB S&W & QD+, VW QDS, even the Eagle One WAUD, and tried them all to no avail - the surface still looks good, but feels draggy and dead.

By contrast, the '85 Civic Wagon which hasn't been touched for a few months feels slick and smooth!:) Of course, it hasn't been parked at my office every day either:(

Due to work and family commitments, I'm not going to be able to do a full detail on it until after Thanksgiving:( Is it OK to leave it like this?

When I do get to do it, any recommendations? I have never waxed it, but always kept EX-P on it, and now that our weather is cooler, I want to start trying some of the products I have seen you all using and have been accumulating.
 
Norah did you check what was on your hand? Maybe you are near an Airport? If it looks good, most likely there is protection there. I hope there isn't 1 coat of wax on there... there should be more! :lmfao
 
My office is about 2 miles from the airport :( but we are not in the direct flight path and the prevailing winds seem to blow TOWARDS the airport:dunno

There is NO wax on the car. I've been following the "RPP" - sealant, sealant, and more sealant!!! Steve told me that waxing a car in our AZ summer heat, is non-productive and advised me to wait until the weather cooled to add the Natty's to my regimen.
 
So you have 3 coats of sealant on now? It might be that something got on there and you lost the slickness. Grab some UPP if ya need that slick feel. or wax your model cars like I did. :D
 
I feel your pain. Since my last show in September I haven't even had a chance to wax my car. I have been moving and its been snowing and all the other good excuses for not getting on top of caring for my cars. Surprisingly enough they aren't in too bad of shape. I got a chance to wash them both on Thursday and they are still smoother than I would have thought. My wife parks less than 100 yards from the runway at the airport and her car is smoother than mine is. The only difference is that the top coat on her car is Liquid Souveran and the top coat on mine is Pinnacle Signature. This has given me a new found respect for Liquid Souveran. She is parked in a pretty harsh environment and her car is staying very well protected. I work downtown and can't seem to keep the car smooth. oh well... I'll just have to ignore it till Spring. Its too damn cold to deal with now. Maybe Santa will get me a garage heater this year. :naughty

I had the very same experience recently. The surface of my car still looked good but felt horrible. I noticed it after having some service done at the dealership in my case though. I'm fairly certain the protection was still there but I couldn't leave it feeling that way so naturally, I started all over... wash, clay, SSR1, and UPP. I haven't decided yet whether I want to just keep refreshing the UPP on it or if I want to top it with something else. Anyway, the strange thing is that my other car, which just happens to be a Civic also and hadn't been touched for a while, still felt slick and smooth too. Coincidence? ;)

Like Woob, I'd guess that the protection is probably still there so it should be fine until you can get around to it.
 
Does it feel like there's residue on it or just not as slick as you'd like? If it feels like residue (bumps etc.) you may need to clay. Try a little bit on the "inconspicuous area" and see if you notice a difference. If you do, then make plans to clay the car come Thanksgiving (and be thankful you have a slick car again! :) ). If there's no big difference, maybe you got some oxidation? :dunno If so, you'd need to polish.

These are just guesses, as I've usually gotten a boost in slickness after qd'ing. (not necessarily a boost in smoothness-they're not the same thing).

If that doesn't work, you might try S&W followed by another quick coat of sealant if you have the time ... That's teh great thing about having a little two seater! It only take about 15-20 minutes for a little touch up! :D
 
I travel a lot for work ( at least 2 weeks a month, sometimes more ), so often my car is left in the long term carpark at the airport - and it feels terrible if its there any longer than 3 days which is quite often.
At least I keep the clay manufacturers in business! lol :)

You may want to try Zaino Z6 as a QD...

My Audi sits outside every day in a parking lot in the Sodo area of Seattle. There's an odd mix of industrial, a little light retail, some large companies (Starbucks) and heavy rail traffic. There's a main rail yard about two blocks from the parking lot and a large garbage transfer station about 1/2 block from the parking lot. So my Audi picks up lots of general dust, rail dust and (from the birds attracted to the garbage transfer station) bird doo-doo.

When I come home, I dust the Audi with a CCD and then use a little water and a utility MF to gently remove the bird poop. Weekly, I wash with Zaino Z7 and then give it quick QD with Z6.

My Audi has Zaino Z2 and Z5 as a base. So far, even with all of the dust and bird poo, the paint is still slick as glass. Virtually all dust and contaminents come off with the Z6 QD and/or washing.

I've tried Z6 on my wife's Subaru Forester which has FMJ as a base. It improves the shine and slickness markedly. Still not as good as Z2/Z5, but still improved.

Give Z6 a try. (FYI, it's pretty concentrated. So I put it in a spray bottle with about 20% water.) Here's a link:
