Your Thoughts: Best Spray Wax for looks + durability?

My only experience has been OCW. I also use AW but I don't think its a stand alone spray wax as durability is its weak point.

So yeah what are Your Thoughts on The Best Spray Wax for looks + durability? esp. for dark colors.

Not a spray wax but a spray sealant: blackfire crystal seal....amazing stuff....

HD Express Wax - Super easy to use, fills light marring nicely, darkens and adds gloss. Lasts 1-2 months and can be used over any of the 3D/HD polishes & protectants.

I like Pryma hydro and even like to blend hydro with hydro seal I know it makes hydro max but I like to play chemist

Prima Hydro MAX Super Spray Polymer 16 oz. . I use it on the roofs of my truck and family SUV's that are to much of pain in the *$$ to do with regular wax. I have been amazed how well it works and long it last up on the roof taking a beating from the sun. Now I use it sometimes when I don't want to do a all out wax on the whole car but it needs a coat wax. Also I use CarPro Hydro2 Touchless Silica Sealant 500 ml. so easy to use but I find the beading doesn't last as long as a good liquid wax or Prima Hydro Max. But I love that it eliminates having to rub the whole car down lessens the chance of swirls or marring.

Leaving aside the old spray version of UPP, which I'm still using up on the S8's trim, and the Sonus Acrylic Glanz spray, which I sometimes use on KSGed things...

So far I've only used the OCW, which I think of as a drying aid. I use it as a stand-alone on fresh paint, but just don't imagine it providing the protection I want (eh, that's just a guess..) and it sure doesn't last as long as I demand from a LSP.

Got some of the Meguiar's UQW for Christmas, hoping it'll do a little concealing on the (uncorrectible) '93 Audi. But again, that'll just be a drying aid over healthy Collinite 476S.

Bill D has pointed out that ValuGard's FastFinish QD leaves so much protection behind that it can sorta be considered a spray wax, but I still redo it every wash (it's my #1 choice on black exterior plastic and rubber).

migliore cima sealant - I have switched to that from an express wax as its slick, looks great, and offers better durability. ~3 months durable (manufacture says 5, but I dont have time to test that!)

Other spray waxes were
megs express wax
OCW

Hmm several ppl love prima hydro. So no ones ever tried the polish angel spray wax called black wulfenite?

i guess they're more popular in Europe.

Hey mystic,

I also use OCW and BSD. I find OCW to streak a little when applied on my previous black car. BSD was really easy to use and I found it last a bit longer than OCW.

Although somewhat finicky, I enjoy using reload (sealant) on black cars. When it doesn't streak, the reflection is amazing. And it has long term durability.

I guess my question is: Do you want a spray "wax" for the nuba look; or do you want t spray "product" to be quick, easy, bead great?

As for a spray wax I really do like OCW. In my opinion it is one of the best spray wax's out that has the look and the durability.

If you are simply looking for a spray product then there are a lot of options.

  • ReLoad (Like a spray wax but the look and actions of a coating)
  • Hydro2 (Mist on and spray off. 2-3+ of durability. Time is money and this will be a money maker.)
  • Sonax BSD (QD that acts like a coating. I am getting good durability for a QD)
  • Kamikazi Over Coat (Playing with it now and very cool. A "top coat" that is easy to apply wet or dry.)
  • Gyeon Q2 Bathe+ (Car wash with "Reload" in it. Wash and gloss/slick in one step.)

TroyScherer- maybe it's because I'm using it on silver, but I didn' really notice the OCW having a "really carnauba"-type look to it. It's probably just a bit too, uhm..."bright and sealanty" to use on my Jag, for instance. But !oh man! is that kind of talk just splitting (subjective) hairs!

Zelfiris- When the OCW streaked for you, was it on bare paint or over top of something? So far it's been utterly Accumulator-proof for me.

I was mostly using OCW on my black truck and VW darker metallic grey car. On both of those vehicles I thought OCW had a deeper / wetter look than other spray waxes. One of my other favorite spray waxes is DG AquaWax and by comparison it looks very much like a sealant compared to OWC.

I have used some other spray "waxes" that were more nuba. But most of them either attracted large amounts of dust due to the oils or had poor durability, or both.

I always tend to lean a little more to the sealants anyway due to maintenance and durability and I like the look as well. On a silver Jag I would more than likely use a sealant or coating and then use Sonax BSD or comparable and never look back. One thing that surprised me is that once I coated my wife's VW darker metallic grey car and topped it with Reload is that she sent me a picture of her car sitting out in the snow covered in crap and asked what I did to it. She said it was almost glowing and you could tell how nice it looked even with all the crap on it. That just pushed me even farther into the sealant / coatings.

Troy,

yeah I grabbed a kamikaze over coat from Todd over at esoteric detail and used it just once so far. In my experience it didn't really enhance the look with that zip! Zang! Kapow! But it beads water well. I'm still not sure if that's a placebo effect for "protection", I guess the chemists can answer that one, but being hydrophobic is probably better than not being so...

im giving it another shot in a few days since it's finally warming up here in Chicago, also know as Chi-Beria!
