Your Favorite OTC Polishes

Hi!

I have a day off today, kind of on short notice, so I wasn't able to order all the stuff I need online. I've got a bunch of left over misc. stuff from some of my last orders (I usually just buy enough at a time to get 1 specific job done), but I don't think I have much polish left at all.

I was wondering what you guys thought are some good over the counter polishes. I'm talking something I can buy at Kraegan or autozone or something.

I've already got a wax I really like (I got it at a car show, actually. Thought it was going to suck but it's really pretty good.) so I'm looking for somethign that will get out the medium-heavy swirls in my 1997 Toyota Camry. I'll be using the PC (don't have a rotary)

Also, how tough is the Camry paint? Hard clear coat or what?

Thanks for your input! :chuckle:

I like Autoglyms Super Resin Polish as an OTC over here (England) it might at a push deal with medium swirls with a PC but is really more light swirls,I had good results by hand in my pre-PC days, mist the pad with QD or even water before applying and note it does dust on removal, if you use to much product.

I like Mothers Power Polish with an Orange light cut pad. If you wanted something more aggressive, you might try an auto parts store like NAPA and get some Megs Mirror Glaze line. (#80, #83, etc.)

No personal experience with your type of paint, but white paint is typically fairly hard.

Agree with Bigleegr. You might also try Megs new ScratchX, which can be used with a pc, if scratches aren't too bad.

Where in SoCal are you? Without trying to locate your nearest auto body type retailer, you could hit Super AutoBacs. IMO they have the widest selection of OTC car care products. They carry Meguiar's, Mothers, 1Z Einzett, and more.

I know AutoZone, Pep Boys, and possibly Kragen's carries some of Meguiar's professional line, but even if they do, selection is very limited. At Super Autobacs, they almost always have #83 DACP and #80 Speed Glaze in stock. The only thing I wish they had was #21 Synthetic Sealant. They carry #20, but not #21 for some reason. But that won't affect you since you already have a wax you like.
