Your actual MPG

Around 20 mpg combined. This is for both the:

PT Cruiser(I4, auto)

Pilot EXL(V6, auto)

I've been pretty dissapointed with the first one:(

'04 DeVille DHS: Around 19 MPG city and 26 MPG highway at 70 MPH. If I slow to 55 on the interstate, my milage jumps up to around 32 MPG but I have to drive watching the rear view mirror.

Geez, my case in point. My little PT could NEVER get 32mpg on the highway. The tranny always keeps the I4 plenty busy. I don't care if it says I have "overdrive", when I am on the highway I'm usually around 2900rpm! The Honda sticks around 1500! :furious:

I think the Protege's I4 is at ~3000rpm at 70mph. The PT Cruiser is no compact car though. You have to understand that it's a relatively large vehicle, so you can't expect great mileage. It's a small engine but it has to move a large vehicle.

Atticdog, his previous post said it's a V6. The V6 has more torque so it can be geared differently, to allow it to spin at lower rpms on the highway.

Yes, the PT is very heavy for the engine. That weight translated to the highest crash test ratings, which is partly why we bought it in the first place. In city driving, I end up pushing the I4 harder than I normally would. It's really only sprightly around 3k rpm.

The Honda V6 is a wonderful engine: smooth as an electric motor, but very strong throughout the rpm range. And considering the size of the Pilot, 20mpg is pretty decent.

In my 2000 Formula, auto, 5.7 liter V8, mixed city/highway I'll get 19-20, city around 17, and strictly highway I get 26

Yeah, those GM smallblocks are remarkably efficient for their displacement. :woot:
