You won't believe this

No matter how careful you are or how far you park away from the rest of the world, someone will find a way to put a dent or scratch in your car. I gave up a long time ago. In the end, it's just a car. What is damaged can be fixed if it bothers you that much. What's the point of owning a nice car if it's only going to sit in your garage? I can understand it if it was a priceless classic which appreciated in value, but for a majority of cars it's such a waste to have it sitting in the garage because you're too scared of what other people will do to it.

I think being an Autopian comes at a price. Our cars, no matter how cheap or expensive attract more attention than the average driver's car. When people see you cleaning your car all the time, they have a pretty good idea what buttons they can press to really ruin your day. It's sad that there's people out there that gets enjoyment from that, but that's reality for you.

my next door neighbor would always have his trees cut once a year so that sap wouldn't land on our cars, but not this year even after my sister asked him nicely (he said he would "talk to the gardeners"). for some reason lately, when i always wash my/families cars he opens his garage door and looks over as if he expects me to wash his (i've done it for free in the past to be nice). i've learned some people these days aren't very kind, and if they can't have the nice things like you do, they'll do whatever they can to ruin yours (jealousy)...

The point in my case is that I can. It nice to drive your favorite vehicle when you desire to on those beautiful days on open roads without being accompanied by people driving because they must (i.e going to work, kids activity, etc.)

Don't get me wrong, when I was young I drove that favorite vehicle everywhere and all the time. As you get older driving becomes more of a chore and less of a pleasure and worrying about someone violating my favorite vehicle's personal space is not worth it.

Basically, sh*t happens but the least amount of time you're exposed, the less of a chance of it happening to you.

Plus it is fun pulling that "toy" out infrequently. That new car sweet, the sweet sound of a fresh engine and the tingles that it still creates. Every ride is fun and the experience never because routine.

I find that life always works in a funny, mysterious way. With my luck, I could wait for that one special day to drive, and somehow either I'll screw something up or someone else will. You're right that you're lessening your chances of something bad happen, but at the same time you're letting other people dictate how you live or have fun. I wouldn't want to live my life in fear of what others might/will do. If that's how America works, none of us would be flying or out and about after 9/11.

If a car is enjoyable to drive, the excitement never changes whether you drive it everyday or once a year. The reason why you're on the road on the other hand (work, errand, fun, etc.) could possibly affect your driving mood.

My environment also could be the reason why I don't see things your way. I've lived in SoCal most of my life, so I've always felt that no matter how remote the location I drive to around here, I'm bound to hit traffic one way or another. Your idea of an open road could be completely different than what my idea of an open road is. Plus, we have a lot more uninsured and illegal immigrants/drivers around here but that's never stopped us from driving the roads out here.

I understand your perspective completely. People my age (mid-50's) and in seemingly good health have life changing events (i.e death, cancer, other health issues) that make me wonder why I delay any legal pleasures of life. Then I tell myself, "what if I do live a long and healthy life, would it not be nice to have a relatively new toy to bring pleasure once in awhile"? Well, when I recall how to do so.;)

I live in the country and moved here for the slower pace of life. We have smooth roads, no traffic, garages and rarely need to park on the street. We do have too my deers and wild turkeys that can ruining a nice day.:( A far cry from the 43 years I lived and went to school in Beantown. Maybe that's the reason I rarely drive the Z06. There is really no place to go.:wall

Go Red SOX and Pats!!!!:woot:

Not sure what kind of area you are in, but consider that the person leaving the note could be baiting you. Frankly, I trust no one these days.

The scratches may be totally unrelated.

They see a nice car and want to get a phone number in order to make contact with you.

You have a valuable car, so they figure you have a valuable house and other belongings they can take.

Call your local PD desk and tell them what happened. They might be willing to give this person a call and see if they can get some info. Again, not sure what kind of area you're in or if they have time/desire to do such things.

People fly through traffic just to pull up next to me to rev the engine or roll down the window to hear the exhaust. Then they always say "wanna race?" everyone who say's it laughs like their so funny. The thumbs up and yells of "beautiful" are welcomed though.

It's like when your washing your car and someone says "mine next?" or "missed a spot"

Wish i could rent the whole road and have it all to myself sometimes.

That would be the first thought too if this happened to me. But considering the girls who left this note were a bunch of teenage girls, and his car hood ended up being scratched to hell, it just sounds like a bunch of kids goofing off and thinking they're funny. I would explain the story to the cops and let them handle it. Maybe they can somehow get one of them to confess to who did it and go from there. But my guess would be that the number is bogus or belongs to someone they hate or want to play a prank on.

Its's a shame when some idiot tries to do the hood slide (ala the Duke boys) on someone else's car. It's also a shame that anyone feels threatened to enjoy a car after working so hard to maintain its luster. It's like having furniture you can't sit on or wine you can't drink. One guy I used to work with had some elegant sterling silver flatware. He kept it in a safe deposit box at the bank. Kind of defeats the purpose of having it. Oh, and if you find out who did it, perhaps you could return the favor. Be sure to wear cleats!!!!!

All of these tales completely disgust me. But damage can come in numerous shapes and sizes. My white '99 M3 is in really great shape considering its age and its 71k miles. And with its 11 psi boost courtesy of a supercharger and intercooler, it goes like the wind. But, what damage Ive managed to accrue over the years is almost entirely limited to the hood.. AS the leading edge of the car, its the surface most likely to suffer Road Rash.. By Road Rash, Im referring to the sand, gravel, dust, particles floating in the air, etc, that we smack into when were moving at speed down the road... The kind that pisses me off the most comes from those Big Trucks that you see that have a tarp half heartedly draped across the load. At 50 mph or more, whatever the load comprises says 'F U' to the tarp, and just starts flying out the back.. I dont care if your 100 ft or 100 yard or more behind this joker, your hood is going to get Pelted. And theres no place to hide. Ive tried fading back, or coming up close and passing.. Either way, youre going to get pelted. Its a very helpless feeling when you find yourself behind one of these assholes. IVe polished the damage down to the best of my ability, and in the sunlight, you really cant see it.. But under the fluorescents, well, you get the picture. Only true fix will be a hood repaint.

I'd guess it went down like this... Some girls noticed your car and one said "OMG i love those cars". The others said "what? what car?" The girl told her friends to get a picture of her on the hood in a sexy pose and that's how it got scratched. I'd give that # to the police and tell 'em what happened and see if they can get anywhere with it.

this morning i go out to pick up the trash/recycling bins and i notice a cigarette butt on the ground next to my sisters IS. sure enough, some loser flicked the cigarette butt onto her car and i noticed ash on the back bumper. luckily, there wasn't any damage as i sprayed some QD and wiped it away. why are people such a$$hole's these days?...

Not to get too sociological about the whole thing, but I think its a sign of the 'in your face' aggressive culture that seems to have taken hold. Nobody gives a **** about anybody else. More important than treating your fellow man as you want to be treated is the saying 'do unto others before they do unto you.' And, as all can see, it doesnt make for a particularly joyous environment in which to live.

Aw man... that sucks!!

Reminds me of the time my brother and I went to Ozzfest (a few years back) we drove his HUGE 1500hd truck which was a hell of an attention getter. Since I had a VIP box at the event we got to park in a fenced in VIP lot close to the entrance.

Show was awesome, but since there were dirt lots surrounding the VIP lot he ended up with a thin coat of dust on his truck... when we got in we could see something on the back window... upon closer inspection some classy young lady had pressed her bare breasts up against the glass and written her name/number just below them (I bet her mom is proud)

Anyways, we got a laugh out of it until the next day when he saw it in the light and tailgate was scratched up really bad where she had climbed into the bed. :(

As you can see from the pic this thing wasn't exactly a breeze to climb into the back of and the damage she left was evidence of that.

yeah, i know what you mean. not only are some people inconsiderate these days, when jealousy is an issue to damage something nice they do not own themselves, that's just wrong. it's like you work hard for things only to have some nimrod get the satisfaction to try to ruin for you... :bat
