you opinion on this car

For me, this is the best looking 4 door on the market right now.

But i can see how someone would want a different look depending on a few things.

JBM -- I agree that the GS is perhaps the second most beautiful sedan/4-door coupe. In fact, I'll be getting the GS 450h when it comes out next year. But, if I bought for looks rather than reliability/service/quality/value/hybrid (all of the reasons I buy Lexus), then I'd buy the CLS. The CLS is just much sexier in my opinion.

Oh i agree, it is a very good looking car, but i dont see 60, 70, or 80k there. Whatever it costs.

I would go with an A8 before paying that for the MB.

I'd at least make sure the dealer's gonna give you a suitable loaner if your car goes on the fritz.

Around here, if you bring in your S class, they give you an E class loaner. Bring in your E-class, they give you a C-class loaner, etc. However, this is little solace. One gets tired of driving around a loaner (and I bet the Lexus dudes do not have the same problem). And oh by the way, I caught myself detailing their loaners - pretty lame - only on Autopia.

I guess objectively, Lexus are not bad looking cars. However, I could not shake the feeling that I am driving a glorified Toyota (and it seems that I have ridden in a Toyota half my life). I know this is totally irrational.

HEY!!! i never gave this guy permission to use a pic of my car with MY house also in the background!! i can also sue this guy for tresspassing because i have a moat around my house (with a gator in it) with a big gate so he musta snuck in somehow!!!!...........................im gunna call my lawyer now!!...............................................................

:har: :har: :har:

I love the styling myself. A couple of weeks back I had an E350 for a weekend test drive and did over 800Klm (500 miles) in it. Very enjoyable but I am holding out for the Chrysler 300C to be released here which to me represents much better value for money.

BMW & Lexus are absolutely not to my taste in regard to their designs. Audi is top shelf.

On a side note about reliability, asonyexec is probably not worried about that too much considering the reliability of his own products, if you know what I mean?

Around here, I brought in my C-Class, and my loaner was a Neon, with a paid upgrade to a Camry. That's one reason I've left MBZ behind -- not because I have a right to a Mercedes loaner, but if you're going to promise a world-class ownership experience, don't send your customer home in a Neon. It's inconsistent with the promise. And I found that to be true with every branch of MBZ I interacted with.

Interesting James...

Which car(s) would you consider good looking?

(I don't care for the 745 look either.)

I think Audis are the best looking of the current cars, in particular the A8 and A4. If I had a pile of money to spend on a luxury boat, it would be the A8. The BMW 3/5/X3 are nice enough but not stunning. Most of the others that come to mind seem quite pedestrian at the moment.

Edit: I forgot the new Mustang, which I love. Different category entirely, of course.

Ok below is a pic of the CLS 500, this is what I'm saving my pennies for and plan on getting one within the next 12 months. I'm wondering what your opinion is of this car...good, bad or indifferent. POST AWAY.

My favorite looking car for sure.

I love the new CLS-Series. It looks gorgeous! For the money, it's very sexy. To get sexier, you'd have to step up to an Aston Martin or Ferrari! Get it, get it, get it!!!:bigups

Can i add my 2c worth

IF you're going to be spending that much money.. why not an Aston Martin Vanquish?? Now there's a sexy car.

Personally, that Merc is a nice car.. mainly cos it's a Merc. But I wouldn't be rushing to trade my RX8 for it. ;)

Basically the CLS is a prettied-up E-Class. Same platform, same mechanicals. The overwhelming percent of electronic gizmos are the real weakness of this car. Beauty is strictly subjective. But MB has a big, uncontrollable problem area: the electrohydraulic brakes. When the SBC lamp goes on, you have only the emergency brakes which can provide max. 0.3 g of deceleration and only the front brakes are working via a small, conventional booster. Because it is working only on the fronts, you don't have ESP & ABS functions, neither BAS (panic assist). This led to a massive recall campaign. MB updates the software and the problem can disappear. But it can stay as well, and in Germany there were a few cases when the car crashed almost immediately after the update. MB will discontinue this system as these models (E, CLS, even the SLR) run out. Not too trustworthy...

I would choose a Lexus GS450h or an Acura RL instead. For me, a spiced E-Class doesn't mean real premium just because the sexier sheetmetal. It is wiser to choose a more honest, less arrogant product. But obviously, if you want to spend lotsa coinz for a car... Honestly, with these mergers, we have no truly independent manufacturers any more (one exception is Honda). Everything is getting more and more diluted. And when only 95% of the purity is there and the vital 5% essence is missing - you won't be a satisfied customer.

I am with you there. I would be p*ssed off. That does not make sense at all. If you claim to be a luxury brand, you've better walk the talk.

I've seen a and it is an absolutely beautiful car when you actually see it in person. Of course, get the AMG CL55 for teh win. 469hp and mid 12 second quarter miles.

I have a CL55 an SL55 and a S55. Of the 3 the CL is by far the most stunning of the 3 in my opinion. I am waiting to see the new S class in person. If I don't like the S I will be getting the CLS63 (the new AMG engine powered car). By the way the CL55 has 493 horsepower not 469 as does the E class and CLS. The difference lies in the exhaust system and the air intake snorkel diameters as well as different ECU tuning.

And a $30 k difference.

I really like the CL55 too (I don't think I can afford it in this life time).

Ridden in my friend's E55 and the 469 ponies are fast enough.

I was told that the super chargers (there are two in the E55) will go out around

100,000k miles. It costs about $6k each.

But I guess for a guy who owns 3 AMG cars, that should be no problems. :lol

(probably find those changes under the sofa)

There is only one supercharger (SC) in the V8 AMG's. There are 2 turbo chargers in the V12 engines. I have not heard of any supercharger life cycle estimates. I would think that that could be true for turbos since they do fail after time. The Mercedes superchargers a the screw type SC's and do have a magnetic clutch that does not engage the SC until about 3,000RPM's. This was designed this way to cut down on the wear and increase fuel efficiency but you would never guess it from my fuel mileage. :grinno: :grinno:
