Ok below is a pic of the CLS 500, this is what I'm saving my pennies for and plan on getting one within the next 12 months. I'm wondering what your opinion is of this car...good, bad or indifferent. POST AWAY.

I found that the real thing did not look as good as the pixs.

Still a very nice car. My wife hated the rear seating arrangement, though (women - they should stick

with minivans).

I also notice that you have a 2003 Lexus GS. Are you sure you want to switch from a super reliable car to something more "adventuous"? Man, we had all sort of problems on our 2000 S-class - got rid of it a few years ago. Our 2003 E-class is better - but I am keeping my finger crossed. Perhaps, you should wait a few years and see if their new president can sort out the reliability issue.

My colleaque has a 2006 E55. Wow, that's a nice car!

You really want opinions?

It is the ugliest car on the planet. I didn't think the BMW 745 could be beaten, but they did it.

CARW I have been impressed with Lexus' reliability, this is my 3rd one and have never had a "major" mechanical problems with any of them. Another big plus is that even service at the dealer is not as outrageous (cost wise) as what I have heard from some colleagues that own BMW or Benz (in this industry those are the 2 big status brands to be seen in).

I was thinking that the CLS, being a higher end car in the BENZ family, would be a bit more reliable than some of their lower end cars. But I'm always interested in hearing from those that have already experienced a particular model or make.

Thanks for the info

Hmmm, I can't decide if I like it or not - like the new 7 series it seems like a mix between two cars. I like the back, but not the front. I'm one the fence about MB, since the whole Chrysler thing they've been getting some poor reliability reports. I like the new Lexus GS better overall, or maybe the Infiniti M45, I think. But ya, I certainly don't think it's a bad car - I bet it's fun to drive. :)

I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

I'm sure it will grow on me though. If you really like the car then I would get it. In the end your going to be the one paying and driving it, not us. ;)

I never have any mechanical problems with my MB's. It is the dang electronic systems. On my S class, it constantly came up with ESP (electronic stabilization program), BAS (who knows what), etc error messages. The battery died after 2 year. I would have thought better for a $80k car. At any rate, they really gave me wonderful service. Sold it before the warranty expires. :o)

If I were to get that CLS, I would spend some $$$ on some good exclusion extended warranty (around $2k for 10 years).

I think it has alot of the same lines and styling cues as MB's younger sibling - the Maybach 57, and most people either love or hate the styling of that car too. I have admired the CLS 500 up close, and I find it to be a beautiful piece of work. At least you would know that it would be a head-turner one way or the other! :lol

Great car...I have seen a lot of them in my area...everyone I know who has one enjoys it...I think the pictures dont do it justice...my favorite color for it is silver...

I am a pickup guy, and i dont know the price of that car.

But, it looks nice if it were to cost under 50k.

If its more than that, it looks like crap compared to what BMW, Audi and Lexus-and Infinity have out.

I believe it is way north of 50k (a cls 500 costs around 70k; a two digit one - the sky is the limit).

I beg to differ on BMW, Lexus, Infinity - Don't care for those styles (esp Lexus).

The only new BMW I like is the new 6 series. Of those 3, Audi always has great style.

saving pennies for a mercedes...now thats funny.

most buyers of that car probably don't have to save any pennies....

BMW 330 - car and driver's #1 sedan in a comparo of 7, in this months mag....or is that too easy.

I'm a pretty conservative guy when it comes to styling, preferring the "three box" look. Leaving that aside, I'd be leery of the reliability. From what I've heard, MB has allowed their technology to speed ahead of their ability to maintain it. I've heard that there are known electrical/computer/high-tech glitches for which, so far, there are no fixes. MB isn't alone here, but their newest cars seem to be prone to this sort of thing. I'd at least make sure the dealer's gonna give you a suitable loaner if your car goes on the fritz.

You have to hand it to MB for trying something that controversial, one of those love it or hate it, no in between kind of things. Personally, I quite like it. (I do think it’s idiotic that they call it a coupe though, count the friggen doors!)

If you want it to stand out, whatever you do don’t get silver. Barolo red and Everest Green are cool. Me, I love a big Benz in white, very classy. Not saying that you shouldn’t get silver if that’s what you love, it’s just that silver Mercedes are the only things in LA/OC that are more common than fake tans, fake boobs and smog.

For me, this is the best looking 4 door on the market right now.

But i can see how someone would want a different look depending on a few things.

Context: I am a dedicated Lexus owner and have been since I bought my first one in 1999 (I'm on my third now, but still have the first one). Anyway, after first being an MB lover and then swearing them off because of reliability/quality issues in the last couple of decades I have the following to say about the CLS.

This car is possibly the most beautiful car that I have ever seen! My opinion is that the pictures do not do it justice. I saw my first one on the road about a month ago. This car had me doing research on the MB web site -- seeing if I could afford one or when I could afford one. It is gorgeous!

Now, if it only came in a hybrid!
