You New Guys Have it Made!

It amazes me all the new game changing products that have come along in the last several years. Back when I started detailing it was much more of a challenge to perfect paint and you didn't have near as many weapons in your arsenal as you have today.

Detailing clay, microfiber, da polishers, hybrid polishers, foam pads, microfiber pads, vapor cleaners, super compounds, durable spray on sealants, waterless washes. That's just what I can think of off the top of my head.

The biggest advantage newbies have today is the vast knowledge base that's readily available to them on the internet. Back when I started the expert you had to get advice from was the sales rep of the supply company you bought from. In my case he didn't know much so everything was trial and error. If you wanted to know if a product really worked you had to buy it and try it. Now you have tons of reviews to help guide you as well as many respectable detailers willing to share their knowledge.

Detailers are pretty spoiled these days. ;)

Things have changed. You can see just how the Rupes has become a popular machine despite the cost. It does not mean the DA and Flex cannot do the job but people seem to have the money to buy the nice things.

Agreed...there has been a huge amount of new detailing technologies that have been released in just the last few months.
I know all manufacturers need to release "new" products. It seems to me competition & technology is now evolving faster.

Here's a few recent I can think of...Decon chemicals, clay alternatives, polisher technology, Megs M101, new pad and disc
technologies (foams, MF, wool discs etc.), sealants and coatings. "That's just what I can think of off the top of my head."

Troy, your words are so true and even though the detailing game has changed through the years, the Internet and availability of instant information has made a HUGE impact!! :bigups

Well stated Troy and totally agree!

When I started learning about paint correction in the 60's it was from my father. Dupont #7 compound with an old piece of cotton as a applicator. That was a old t-shirt or underwear torn up.

Today's correction with all thats available with product and machines, make clear coats a walk in the park.

Missed my Apple Sealant from the old days.........:rockon

When I first started, I bought out a friends business and it came with an Apple Polishing franchise.

That stuff had potential. You applied it with a gem orbital and you had to switch bonnets frequently and immediately soak them in a bucket or they would get rock hard and be ruined.
