You guys ever seen / used this thing?

I wonder what the benefits of such an instrument would be. (I dont have sound here at work).



It seems like it would have a pretty small contact patch.

He claims that the rotary action of a normal polisher gives an uneven finish because the differential in surface speed from the middle to the outside of the pad face and that this thing is better because the speed is constant across the width of the roller.



As you mention, he ignores the fact that the contact patch is very small, making it nearly impossible to maintain even pressure along the path of travel (especially at the end of a pole).



He also leaves out the problem of keeping pressure even across the roller and how easy it would be to dig one edge of the roller in while lifting the other.

Specifically, bare aluminum airplanes. While the manufacturer does recommend it for paint, it was designed for buffing bare metal.



Also note the paint on airliners only needs to look good between a few hundred feet (from the terminal) to a few thousand feet (in the air) away. Up close, they look pretty miserable by automotive standards.
