You get what you pay for, One of the worst cars I've ever had to work on!

maybe the difference was that you had your eyes open during the correction, because whoever did that hack job before, had to have had his eyes closed during the process.
pretty amazing turn around !

nice nice work man. those types of jobs are not fun at all. i had a similar job i just finished today.
keep up the great work man. i hope you got paid well for the save!

Sadly, there are too many buffer hacks out there. That car was typical of many I've seen on car lots in Raleigh, NC. I don't know who the heck keeps hiring that guy, or maybe he has those embarassing Christmas Party pictures of the boss.

Nice save Eric!

Eric amazing job. I have a question if you dont mind sharing your knowdlege. You mention the soft paint of a lexus in your first post. I have a 2010 lexus is. Obsidian. the car doesnt have swirl marks but it does have some light scratches that drive me crazy. I have a porter cable 7424xp and all the Lake country ccs pads. I used them once, but after using it in an small section with Meguiars ultimate compound and the ultimate polish my paint look cloudy and i decided not to use it again. Would you recommend the same products you used on this lexus to be used with the factory paint. I will appreciate all the help you can provide. Thanks, And again impressive job.

The vechicle looks very nice. That is truly a great turn around. Its a shame things get done to paint like that before you had a chance to fix it. It looked like some kind of weird light show before.

I know your question is directed at the OP but I will just say I had outstanding results finishing a black Lexus (also very soft) with PO85RD.

Hey Eric, was the owner upset that you polished off the cool flames? He spent $250 on that custom paint job!:rofl

Seriously though, awesome job. :bigups :bow

:welcome:I know you were looking for Eric to answer this, but in the meantime;

It is not unusual for paint to appear cloudy or hazy after compounding. 99% of the time it is a result of hundreds of thousands micro scratches created by the abrasives. Sometimes they can be reduced by working the compound/polish longer to break it down or using a less aggressive pad. Depends on the compound used and the paint. The easiest fix, though, would be to simply follow up with a finer polish. Not sure what you have available, but a little research will give you a lot of options. I personally like Menzerna polishes and would try Power Finish first, then perhaps follow up with 85rd or Final Polish II.

Those swirls look purddy Eric!!

Great job at restoring that gorgeous car to pristine condition!! WOW!! :bigups

Wow I wonder how much that ended up costing, totally worth it from what I can see though. I'm glad I didn't end up buying the M105; I thought my swirls were bad but those swirls knock mine out of the park!

Thanks Everyone!

Hello,

I have never personally used the Ultimate compound and ultimate polish (consumer grade from the automotive stores). But I can say, you can do every bit of what I did in this write up with that PCXP that you have.

the UC and UP you are talking about should be able to handle what you are looking for, but your problem is mostly coming from your pad and how you are using them? what color is your CCS pad and are you only using that one pad for both products?

you will need a cutting/light cutting pad (LC orange or LC cyan) for the ulitmate compound (UC) and you will need a separate pad for the polishing (LC White or LC tangerine). and depending on how soft your clear is, you might have to get a finishing pad such as LC crimson, or LC black and use some finishing polish like Menerna 85rd or Black Fire SRC Finishing polish.

With this you can get your paint to the level you are looking for. and make sure you work your product long enough and let it break down properly, or it will leave the paint hazy.

hope this helps

-ERic

Why are you glad you didn't end up buying M105? its the greatest compound on the planet right now?

Why do people insist on going to the body shop for detailing work. Two completely different skill sets. You would think the body shop would employ a professional detailer but you would be wrong. Having been in the body shop business restoring paint is not something that is done or taught. Repairing collision damage, rust damage, and matching the color are. After the paint is applied body shops would benefit by turning the car over to a professional detailer to bring everything up to the level of shine of the new paint.

Wow those side by side pics show how much effort you put in! Looks great, fantastic job. The sad part is it is probably not going to stay like that for long...

Man the condition of that paint was unbelievable it looks like it was washed with a Brillo pad. The 50/50 shot were very dramatic to say the least. My hats off to you on the correction you performed!!!!!!!!!! The car looks absolutely dripping wet.:yourrock
