Yet another tire thread....

Hey all,

Anyone used the new BFGoodrich g-Force Sport tire? I am currently running the BFGoodrich KDW and have been more than happy with them but, I need a bit longer tread wear and a less expensive tire. I am looking at the KDWS which has a treadwear rating of 400 vs the KDW 300 but, the cost is still a bit higher than I want to go at $131. With a treadwear rating of 340 the Sport is between the KDW and KDWS but, its performance figures seem to put it below the KDWS. Numbers though don't always tell the whole picture. I was hoping maybe someone out there has first hand experience with these tires. At $111 they are considerably cheaper than the KDW.

Thanks

I have been running BFG tires for years and see no reason to experiment with other brands at this point. I would go with another set of KDW but, with my daily 100 mile commute I am just looking for a bit more wear at a lower cost. It looks like the KDWS is going to fit that bill. I am also considering the g-Force Sport but, they are so new there is little data on them at this point. I was hoping to find someone who has them to get some first hand feedback.

Thanks

I also have the KDW tires in the back of my car. 285/40/17 and they stick good with my 4:10 gears but I can still get a good spin outta them. I dont know how much performance your looking at or if your wanting some more traction but you can always go with a wider tire if needed. I was once looking at 265/40/17 Falken 451 something or another which were really nice. They will give you some extra meat but I dont know about treadwear. Theres also another falken tire that the treadwear is 340 that Ive heard good things about.

Hope that helps you out

Keep in mind that treadwear ratings aren't very comparable between different brands:
The Department of Transportation requires each manufacturer to grade its tires under the Uniform Tire Quality Grade (UTQG) labeling system and establish ratings for treadwear, traction, and temperature resistance. These tests are conducted independently by each manufacturer following government guidelines to assign values that represent a comparison between the tested tire and a control tire. While traction and temperature resistance ratings are specific performance levels, the treadwear ratings are assigned by the manufacturers following field testing and are most accurate when comparing tires of the same brand. (emphasis mine)
That info was taken from this page at The Tire Rack: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/general/utqg.jsp

BTW, I'm currently running the Azenis ST-115 on my WRX. Very nice for the price, IMO . . . quiet, sticky, and predictable. The only caveat I'll give is that they're a bit mushy at pressures suggested for the OEM RE-92s (the pressures listed on the door jamb), and require some extra psi for the best handling (at least, they did for my car). I think factory recommendation is 33F/29R, and I'm running 39F/35R, and they turn in nicely now. I can't speak for treadwear, though, as I've only had them for one season.
