Yet another Poorboy prototype review

Marj, any idea when these products will be available?
Steve was saying that the earliest case would be sometime in the Fall. There is still a lot of testing to be done. Based upon the results of that testing, there may or may not be changes to the formulas. If the formulas change, then there would be yet another round of testing. Once the formulas are set, there would be instructions to write up and labels to be produced. The factory would also need time to gear up for the production runs. It's not something that happens overnight.

Excellent! I think I can wait until Christmas! Steve should take it easy anyway. :)

the poorboys wash seems a lot like 1z perls shampoo...which is my current fav. wash. im a big fan of high lubricity low suds washes bc i find suds annoying. does the PB wash leave any kind of protection??

i got one word for the wheel cleaner...SOLD!!!!!:wait

great reviews. thanks

You know, I did not find perls to be that slick of a wash. In fact, I couldn't really say that I was impressed with it in comparo to other washes I've tried. And I did not find that it left much of any kind of shine or gloss on the panels that was not already there.

After I've had a chance to play with my next new toy, I will try again and see if my results happen to change.

I had the opportunity for a second round of prototype testing this week. This time, the guinea pig was a BMW 330xi. This car has the worst brake dust problem of any car I have ever owned. It is a daily driver that was last washed about 2 weeks ago. The wheels were treated with Klasse AIO about one month ago. A “before” pic –

I used a common trigger sprayer to apply the product. This photo was taken about 30-40 seconds after spraying –

I let the product soak about 2 minutes, then rinsed with a hose. With no scrubbing or agitation of any kind, the result after rinsing was –

Taking care to spray into the interior of the wheel, even that section came clean with no scrubbing –

As before, it was important to ensure that the spray pattern reached all the appropriate areas. If the spray did not hit a section, that portion was not cleaned. The hardest spots for me to reach were right behind the upper spokes. I didn’t notice that I had missed those spots until I pulled the car into the garage and the wheels had rotated downward. A spray wand with a curved end, like a lawn chemical sprayer, might do the trick. Does anybody use an unconventional sprayer to dispense wheel cleaner? :dunno

After cleaning the wheels, I proceeded onto the shampoo test. This time I paired the PB super slick wash with Sonax Gloss shampoo. The paint surface was last treated with a layer of EX-P about 3 weeks ago. In the bucket, the PB wash (in the green bucket) produced just a bit more suds than the Sonax (in the beige bucket).

On the hood, the difference in sudsing was a bit more noticeable. In this picture, the PB wash is on the left white the Sonax is on the right.

The PB wash was much slicker than the Sonax. This was expected as I found the BMW brand shampoo to be slicker than Sonax, and my previous test showed the PB wash to be slicker than the BMW product. Both products seemed to clean equally well, though this car was not exceptionally dirty. Unless the streets are snow and salt covered, my cars never get THAT dirty, so someone else will have to chime in with their observations for heavily soiled surfaces.

When rinsing, both shampoos sheeted water. However, the Sonax side sheeted off faster than the PB side. This pic shows the sheeting about 5 seconds after the water source was removed.

After another 5-10 seconds, the Sonax side had sheeted about halfway off while the PB side was only about one quarter of the way finished. It took the PB side almost a minute longer to completely dry itself off. This is the only instance so far where the PB wash did not rank at the top of my list. Overall, this prototype is still my favorite shampoo to date, but it’s not perfect… yet.

Wow...wonder when these will be available for the rest of us. I just order EXP, BS remover & a mf kit from PB tonight. Was looking for a good wash too.

Great post marj, I would love to get my hands on both of those, always looking for a better car wash (using NXT right now). Keep us posted on any new updates.

Dang Marj - you are through!!!! No wonder PB has you test! - The wheel cleaner looks awesome! (so does your bimmer!)

After washing, I couldn't leave well enough alone... so I added a Natty's wax topper. Next time I wash, I will observe whether or not the carnauba topper affects the sheeting properties. Tune in again for round 3 of prototype testing. Same Marj time. Same Marj channel.
