yellow car, anyone else disappointed?

First off I would like to thank everyone on this sight. I've been here for about a year now and use the sight as a text book. I have learned more than I ever knew there was to know about detailing. So I guess I'm a " first time caller long time listener."



Anyway I have a zinc yellow Cobra that I wash 3 times a week in the summer and I have about 30 coats of zaino on it. This spring I will try to strip as much z off as possible and claybar and start all over again ( as I do every year). My question is, I am never 100% satisfied that the paint is as 'deep' as it could be. I have seen so many other cars of different colors that have a nice deep wet look. I have failed to do this with my yellow Cobra. Does anybody know if it is the nature of the yellow? I've gotten cars of other colors to look great. Does anyone know of a better wax or polish to use on yellow? I've done a couple of searches already but keep coming up with "yellow pad". Am I the only one with a yellow car? I'm really starting to wonder. Thanks for your replies

There is a guy with a yellow Viper who has also used DUH with spectacular results, and Don M has a yellow Cavalier that he has had great success with, also using DUH.



*D, U, and H substituted for the letters N, X, and T, because it's OK to show good results with other products but it's hype to suggest that one.

I think the zinc yellow is just a pale yellow. I parked my car next to a yellow z06 once and my car just looked .....well, pale. I've noticed at night under fluerscents the yellow looks 'neon' and changes with the lighting. It doesn't look bad I just wish it would look deeper. Thanks for your reply.
 
I have a speed yellow Porsche 993. I have found yellow to be a challenging color. Here are my observations and thoughts:



I used zaino for over a year on it and I too have been disappointed with the “depthâ€� and/or “wet lookâ€� the color seems washed out in brighter sunlight. With the Zaino I found my Speed Yellow car to be a little lighter looking than other speed yellow cars in the brighter daylight. At night the effect was not as noticeable. Everything looked good by itself but when compared to other Porsches with the same paint it appeared slightly lighter. I really like the Z7 wash and the Z6 gloss enhancer and my favorite part about zaino is the gloss and “slicknessâ€�. However, it is not the holy grail for the look I am looking for on my non daily driver. That said I still use it on my other cars but have started to experiment on the 993 (until someone buys it….anyone, anyone? :D).



I have not tried it AIO yet, but from many post here it is suppose to have a “darkening� effect. Maybe AIO and then a good carnauba wax? I purchased NXT last weekend (I just saw it at Advanced Auto Parts and it was impulse buy) to experiment with as I have read here on couple of accounts that it darkened the paint. I applied it on Sunday, however, I haven’t taken the car out of the garage and don’t have any opinions on it yet (the true test will be with another speed yellow Porsche). The other products on my short list to experiment with are the 1Z products. It appears from many discussions that Glanz Wax has some darkening properties also along with a carnauba look. I have it but have not used it yet.
 
On my car, the Z makes for great shine and reflection, but not depth. That said, I'm a sucker for a good sharp reflection.



Do you have any S100 or other Carnuba? I'm really happy with the S100. It doesn't last long, but if you changed your routine and had less washing and more waxing, then longevity wouldn't be an issue at all.



Yellow is a difficult color to get to really pop. I have black. I can get it to pop pop pop, but then I get dirt on it. Life is rough.

Well on my brothers black zx2 you couldn't tell a difference between coat 9 and 10 but there was a noticable difference between say coat 6 and 10. I figured if I kept applying, the shine would begin to appear deeper. Now that you mention it, it does sound rather insane. Oh well I wasted $12 on a bottle of wax, but at the same time I learned quite a bit about polishing. Your viper does look nice, but it already is a deeper yellow than zinc yellow. I noticed someone else had a zinc yellow 03 Cobra that they weren't satisfied with. Maybe I'm expecting to much out of Fords yellow.:nixweiss



Can I apply the nxt over zaino? I really do like how long the zaino lasts and its slippery and protective qualities. I wouldn't have a problem reapplying a carnuba wax on a weekly basis.(I got 30 coats of zaino on my car remember:o ) Thanks for all of your reply's:up
 
Ford seems to have two shades of yellow. One deep (like the 'vette in the pic and my cavalier) and another one that is more of a pastel.



For your car, I would really suggest using one of the Meguiars polishes like #3, #5, #7 or #81 before using DUH. The polishes will help darken your paint before appling the sealant.

A cheap and easy solution would be Meguiars #20 Polymer Sealant and #16 Pro Past Wax. I got a very wet look out of white paint with that combo (Ford Expidition).
 
I am not sure exactly what shade this Zinc Yellow colour is, but if it's a lighter shade, like most yellows are, you will probably NOT be able to make it as "reflective" as a very dark colour like black, where you can use it like a mirror under the right lighting conditions. You can, however, make lighter coloured cars extremely wet and shiny looking.



Sorry to say such a thing, but it's just a function of the paint colour....
