Xm

:yell:

So I am just venting here about XM, I purchased a subscription in December, I was originally going to get a demo for $4.99 for 3 months, then the saleswoman said that she could get me a year offer for $24.11. So i was happy, got it, and I even asked her if i needed to call back next December and cancel to keep them from not charging me full price for next year.

Then, yesterday i get a $170 bill on my credit card, so I call them and they tell me that was only a 5 month promotional period and that i was charged for the next year. I asked to talk to a manager but they refused, and the salesman communicated with him while i was on hold. I put forth my case that why the HE[[ would i pay 5 times more ($25 for 5 months compared to 4.99 for the 3 months) for two extra months of service. He simply said he was sorry for the misunderstanding and I'm currently on hold with the billing department to get my money back.

Damm scam artists

I hate that.

I got a "deal" for Automobile magazine through a Groupon-type offer. It was only $6 a year. Ok, I thought. So I signed up online and AFTER it took my chargecard it thanked me for my $30 payment. Only there did I see the small type that this was for a 5-year minimum order! #@%$&

Yeah, they are good hustlers, the best deal going with them seems to be the year @ $80ish with fees and crap. Then you have to call before the year is over and play the game again, but 20 minutes on the phone is worth saving $100+.

So you get 5 years worth of a magazine subscription, and it cost you $30 ? And you're complaining, why ? That seems pretty cheap to me....

Anti-virus programs are notorious for automatically re-upping you too.

I think there should be a law to make it just as easy to cancel as it is to sign up. Some place <cough Zagat> make it damn near impossible to quit. If I can sign-up online, why can't I cancel online?

Always use a credit card for these types of renewal services. You can always call and request your credit card number to be changed, then your auto-renewal disappears.

Not true, I got a new card because of another issue, the CC co was nice enough to give Zagat my new CC number, I was like ***??? Apparently its common practice for annual services.

One of the anti-virus companies (McAfree or Norton) was actually changing the dates on cards that expired until they got them to go through.

Never had that happen to me, that's crazy. Perhaps legislation regarding banking privacy is a bit different here in Canada.

Yeah I've seen this type of practice before. Usually when your credit card expires, they just send you a new one with a new date on it, but the numbers are the same. If you actually request a new card with new numbers though, then they'd be out of luck.

Yeah, that is what blew me away, I was like WHAT??? Why did you give them my new number. Their answer "for your convenience." I was fuming mad, but it was a good lesson. They did let me dispute the charge.
