XM Radio . . . should I wait?

So, I just got a new car and it came with XM radio. The Nav Traffic service is useless for where I drive, but I like the programming on the music stations. So, I think I'm going to subscribe.

However, I'm having trouble getting over the mental hump of paying for radio stations. To me listening to the radio should be free. But, I feel like if I could get it a little cheaper I would feel better about it.

So, my question is after the free trial expires will XM start sending me letters with cheaper rates to get me back? This often happens if I let a magazine subscription or some other subscription service lapse. All of a sudden rates get cut in half. So, has anyone seen this with satellite radio?

Nope, I sold one of my cars with XM radio in it and called to cancel the service since I was going to Sirius radio. They simply asked for my XM ID and cancelled the account.

I hated the idea of paying for radio until I got Sirius. Now to even listen to regular radio. :nono

Same here man.

I had XM for 8 months then went to FL on vacation and had a rental with Sirius. We got home from vacation I canceled XM and bought Sirius. Night and day difference. Its funny too because Sirius was supposed to be the red headed step child of the sat radio world. I love it, I couldnt live without it now.

Funny thing is when I lost my job in 2005 I canceled it but then about 6 weeks late I re-activated it and I have yet to be billed. Free Sirius for over two years FTW!:woot:

Yes you got it right. But they didn't send me the reduced rate until one month after I let my free trail expire. I think it was reduced to $7 a month instead of $12.

The XM $77/yr does work.

I had it for 3 weeks, turned it off, they refunded me $98 to my card, and the radio is still on and works 8 months later. My neighbor has it in his truck.

Regardless I'd never, ever have anything but sirius. Their radio features are far far superior to XM and music selection is 500x better.

i have XM in my C6, CTS and avalanche. all are built in to the factory radios. been listening to "pay" radio for over 4 years now. i love it. at $7 per month it's a bargain. you have a problem paying for radio? i'll bet you toss alot more than $7 a month on "nothing" at all. i have listened to sirius in rental cars and its very similar programing except for howie sternbalm (who i could care less about). try it, you will like it. 150+ channels. what's not to like?????:)

I borrowed my Dad's Accord this summer when my 626 was giving me a lot of problems and I quite enjoyed the XM radio. Nice not having to change stations when you move between towns.

The features that I LOVE about SAT radio are the pause/fast forward/rewind/and RECORD!!!! I always record "The Car Guys" on NPR Saturday 10AM they are a Hoot. :woot2:

On top of that I can listen from my PC at work, not all the channels are available but at least the one I like.

I have XM for over 2 years in my TL, and I think I might just cancel it for good. Some stations the music sound is too low, while the others are too high.

IMO, CD quality sounds better than XM radio. I should of cancelled a looong time ago.
