Very well done Write Up! So thoughts on the Gloss Enhancing Polish? Do you think the Compound/Finishing Polish really cuts well?

So paints usually have 100 Micros or so of paint? Always confused on these Tiny Measurements :lol

I personally think a paint gauge is essential for pro detailing - can you imagine what going through the clearcoat would do to your reputation? And as the above detail shows, paint thickness varies a lot both between cars and on individual cars - the difference between the roof and the hood on the 350Z was huge in terms of what could safely be corrected.

gandblah - I didn't think your post was flaming at all, hence the happy man on the end of the reply - sorry if it came across this way. The last line was just to basically say to others on here that you shouldn't be afraid to pull up short and tell the customer what can and can't be done - after all, you are the expert in these situations, and even if a customer doesn't get exactly what they want (i.e. flawless paint) they will be much happier if you don't cost them a respray several years down the line! Most customers will see the sense in this.

I love GEP - it's really only a glaze, but it really wets up most finishes and adds the wow factor prior to last step (it also cleans up any compounding residues stuck next to trims without staining them!). The SRC twins have a nice amount of cut, but you need to use more product than with other polishes (well, at least for PC use anyway). I guess this is because of the high lube content in comparison to the standard versions of Menzerna's cerami-clear range (PO85RD3.01 and PO106FF) on which they are based - the SRC twins therefore contain a smaller amount of abrasive per unit of volume, and more product is needed to get the same level of cut.

Now WX51TXR, you my friend are a fine detailer. This, along with past details shows your dedication to details not only on the car but posting it as well. That 350z came out great. Keep up the good work.

I visited a Nissan dealership yesterday, and yes the 350Z , along with their entire line of vehicles , are a base/clear finish. The body shop manager told me that Nissan has used the Base/clear since the 80's. Neither he nor any of this body techs have seen a car produced in the past 10 years that did not have a base clear paint system form the factory.

I also spoke with carl, a manager of a local paint supply house who also backed the above statements up. However he did state certain economy cars had a VERY thin layer of clear and that ther are indeed many differnt types of clear. some very very hard, some soft and they all vary in color form clear to a yellowish color..
