WW towel

You won't regret it at all. IMO, the WW is superior to terry MF's in every way...

Terry MF's are great, but there were a few things that prevented them from being 'perfect' in my mind. WW towels took care of all issues I had with terry MF's.

:xyxthumbs Thanks, that's good to know.

why WW towels would be better at removing polishes and glazes than the thick terry style MF?

I bought 3 Autopian Ultimate DETAILING Towels (not the DRYING towels) last year and used them only for drying my car. Should I use them for polish removal too? Why would they be better during wipe off?

hmm... i'm curious too. right now i only hae the terry style waffle weaves but i bought a few to test out for drying. are there advantages with waffle weave other than absorbancy?

are there any other WW drying towels that are a bit smaller in size? Most of the them appear to be 2' x 3' which is a bit large for my taste - - I always am concerned about it touching the ground.

thx.

I got some from jt international last year sometime that are about 16x16.

madazskunk, who/what is jt international?

thx.

Also, I don't 'spose I could cut one of these larger WW cloths in half, right? I know fraying can become an issue.

Well here it is 24 Jan .. snowed 4" last nite .. and got up to 34F today so I washed the car in the car port .. main reason was the WW towel from PakShack showed up and I wanted to use it.

I am very impressed with the absorbency. I dried the car using the same routine as usual

a) drizzle water from the hose over the car to pull off the water

b) pre dry with fluffy MF

c) final dry with the 24 x 36 WW

At the end the towel was not totally wet and worked very well.

JT international used to be pretty popular here when I first joined autopia. I don't know what happened to him because he had some good towells and awesome prices, i still use them, but I don't seen him mentioned very much anymore. Do a search and you'll probably get alot of info including his email address. I'm thinking it was jtintern@hotmail.com but I'm not 100%.

Mosca,

I asked David about his Ultimate Detailing Towels.

Our grey waffle weave is a pretty standard product. It is a lighter weight material than most common waffle weave towels, which is why I believe it works so well for general detailing. The lighter weight makes them softer and easier to work with. They do not have the bite of a tight terry loop mf towel, so they are not the best polishing towel. This, I beleive, is their only short fall. They do remove wax very nicely and they are a superb QD towel. It's also a great towel for windows and interior work.

Regards,

David

jmsc, sorry for not responding earlier. For some reason I'm still not getting all my e-mail notifications.

I pretty much agree with David's takes on the WW towel. There are also a few other things I like about WW towels:

1. They stay softer with repeated machine washings than terry.

2. Little tiny twigs and bits of leaf are easier to remove.

3. They lint less. Good quality pakshak terry's have practically zero lint, but when doing the interior windshield, even a little lint bit of lint makes the job difficult.

4. The fact they grab your paint less or have less "bite" is, IMO, a huge advantage (not a shortfall)... makes them much easier to use.

Intermezzo,

Thanks for your input and comments. I (and others) appreciate it.

The LESS BITE with the UDT that you and David mentioned has me puzzled. You feel that its an advantage but David feels that its a drawback and the missing link to the perfect towel.

I really love the UDT. Very easy to work with like you say. I am going to buy some more of them. As soon as the weather breaks here in NE, I will test the UDT against the CBT, DFT and the Viper Perfect Shine, all hemless, safe and soft towels, and their polish removal capabilities.

Thanks again.

In a nutshell: a waffle weave (or more properly a Piqué) is generally considered more absorbent than terry of the same content (poly, cotton, whatever)because of it's larger surface area contained in a smaller space. The "waffles" pick up and hold liquid giving the towel a greater chance to absorb. If you use them for buffing they don't work as well because there is less of the towel touching the surface, just the ridges and not the insides of the "waffles."

Keep in mind that I'm comparing equal content terry and waffle. Different content will effect performance... for instance a pure linen terry will absorb far better than a polyester wafflle, the only problem is the linen terry will break the bank!
