WW Care

Is there any different care for WW's than there are for MF? I read about boiling WW but can y ou just wash them with your MF's? They're starting push water and thats why im asking.

You shouldn't have any problems washing them with your other MF's.

I prefer to use Micro-Restore detergent, but at least try to use a liquid non-scented, no additives type. I wash in hot water and do a double rinse with ~1/2 cup vinegar in the first rinse. Watch the rinse cycle and if the water doesn't look clear (no suds) keep rinsing until it is. If I have some really grungy MF's I'll wash them separately with a little APC to help get them clean....... soaking first also helps with those.

I dry on low heat (just to keep the static down) and never use a fabric softener sheet. To date I haven't had any absorption problems with my WW's following the above regimen.

I have to disagree with some of the above..sorry. :o

While WW is MF, they serve different purposes. My WW started to deteriorate when I use to wash them with my regular MF. Why? Because regular MF are used for so many purposes involving polymers, oils, waxes, polishes, glazes, silicone dressings, etc.

Put them all in the wash and the WW will absorb a fraction of this chemical soup. Even a minute percentage of these chemicals is enough to cause the WW to become water-resistant.

None of these chemicals suspended in water should come into contact with WW if you want perpetual water adsorbancy.

Additionally, WW don't need regular washing. They only should ever come into contact with clean water. Why are you washing them? Eventually they'll pickup contaminants and rubber streaks from trim, requiring washing. Wash them separately, treat individual stains with a stain remover, wash in hot water with a TINY amount of detergent, rinse in HOT water with vinegar...and I'll guarantee you they will adsorb indefinitally.

I worry about a different type of cross-contamination: lint.

My WWMFs for glass get washed separately so they don't pick up any MF lint, that stuff drives me nuts when it gets on the windshield.

On the WW drying towels, I've noticed that after a while mine quit picking up water (as well as they once did) no matter what I do :nixweiss I just grumble about it and get new ones.

I would not wash WWs with regular MFs. Residue from the products get in the fibers and make it so that they absorb less even after washing them.
