WTB: SLR Camera

Looking to buy a Canon or Nikon SLR camera. I have a Rebel Xti that just gave up on me with a error99 code, so I need to find a new camera. Ill do another Canon if the price is right, but I think I may be switching over to Nikon since this is the second Canon product to fail on me inside their first year of use.

Not an expert, but Nikon always looks special when I see picture here or DW. I will also purchase a Nikon next time.

Good luck.

Did you try troubleshooting error99?

To isolate the cause of the issue, we suggest that you do the following:

1. Turn off the camera.

2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.

3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.

4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.

5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99″ message appear? If it does, then the camera should be

serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of steps:

1. Turn off the camera.

2. Insert the CF card.

3. Turn on the camera.

4. Format the CF card in the camera.

5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99″ message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most

likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.

If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:

1. Turn off the camera.

2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser

or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the

camera body.

3. Reattach your lens.

4. Turn on the camera.

5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

If the “ERR 99″ message only appears when one particular lens is

attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.

If you see the “ERR 99″ with a different Canon lens attached, then the

camera should be serviced.

If you go with a Nikon be sure to get a vibration reduction lens. No more blurred shots & no more tripods.

Right now I use an 8mp Nikkon Coolpix8800 and it works flawlessly, however, I have convinced my wife to let me buy a new one for Christmas. I wanted one where I can add different lenses for zooms, wide angle, etc. Needless to say, I picked out the D90 from B&H Photo. I buy all of my camera's there (including my Sony Digital Video Camera that I bought last year). They have excellent customer service and are very competitively priced since they are a major distributor for the Northeast. Check out their website at B&H Photo Video | Digital Cameras, Camcorders

The camera that I want to buy comes as a package with the lenses, and can be found at this link:

Canon will give you a refurb for a really decent price if you send your broken Canon in. Its called the Canon loyalty program.

I had a D40 and I loved that camera a lot. I now have a D90 and it is amazing.

On the XTI that you have, take out the battery, memory card, and lens off and install everything again. All DSLR's can have these glitches.

Ive done everything to try to remedy the problem, if it even works it only returns after a few clicks of the shutter. Todd mentioned you may be selling your D90 soon, if so shoot me a pm with your asking price! ;)

You should send it in to canon to fix and then sell it so you do not lose out on it.

I'll let you know about the D90. I only bought it temporary to do a bunch of photo shoots, but now I am not sure I want to let it go.:LOLOL

If you are looking to spend that much on a camera, then I highly recommend the D90. The high iso noise performance is superb when needed for lower light.

I have a D80 and love it. I have had it for about 2 years and love it. I would love to move to a full framer but it just does not make sense for me right now. The quality i get is KILLER. I blew up a picture of my son playing some sports for his party. he is 5'4 and I blew it up to 6' and it looked mint.

Get the VR lenses only. and as close to 2.8 speed as you can afford.

Its out of warranty, so its probably going to cost more to fix it then to get a new camera. I may turn it in once I have another camera in my posession though..but it still works 10% of the time at the moment..haha.
