Would you recommend using a Claifornia Duster

Do you think it will streak the finish when doing a quick detail of dust and dirt? I know it has wax on the fibers. Will this wax come off on my Zaino finish do you think?

Any help from my fellow Autopian brethern is appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend using it, but that's just me. I would recommend, however, doing a search on it. We've had a few CCD discussions recently and they may give you some valuable tips on how to use one if you do decide to go that route.

As CCD ages the wax dissipates. Great for pollen days

and very light dust. Do a search for Carguys extensive test

of the CCD.

The older the better!

Personally, I wouldnt blow my nose with one !

I just have a problem dragging dirt/dust/pollen, etc., across my car...Theres my .02

I've used one for almost 4 years and love it. My car sits outside most of the time, so it accumulates dust over night. I wake up, go outside and take the CCD to it, and QD it.

In the 4 years, I haven't produced any scratches from using it...nor have I had a problem with it streaking.

Although, I haven't used it when it has been dirty. Just when there is a light dusting over it.

Likewise, I've had mine for 7+ years and have had no problems at all. I think it's a great tool when properly used.

Funny, I just saw the dash duster for the first time yesterday as I was browsing Autozone (sound of money leaving my wallet). It looked like a pretty handy thing, but my arms were already full of stuff I didn't know I needed until I walked in and saw them. :p

I have been using my CCD on my show car for sometime now with great results. No scratches or any other problems. I think the key is that it needs to be used properly to remove dust. Its not meant to be used to remove heavy dirt from the car.

I just use the CCD then follow with a QD.

I work at a cement plant and dust accumulation is huge problem with me. A CCD is the only way I can keep the car clean without rinsing it every day.

I have beeen using the ccd successfully for a long time. It is great for removal of light dust that gets on the vehicle during the day.

I've got a black car, and it really gets dusty in the summer. The CCD is a quick wipe down without having to get to detailed.

I know when Ozzy uses Zaino on his car, he'll use his California car duster on it later and it doesn't streak from the wax or leave any sort of marks from taking the dust off, etc. We haven't had any problems using it after putting on Zaino. Just use it on light dust and you should be fine.

I love my CCD! :xyxthumbs :xyxthumbs

I have a jet black car and it works great! I think the key is that I dust my car off at least two times per day if my car is outside. I also will dust it off before I leave the garage and when I get back home. I also usually QD my car each time I get back home in the garage as well.

My theory is that if the car never gets very dirty, the CCD is great. Once the car is dirty, a wash is the only real solution.

Cheers,

My Black 7 Series

I also have and use the Dash Duster for dash dusting. But after reading the numerous threads on the CCD, I chose a different route for dusting the exterior. I use DFTowel's MF towel. I love it, it has thus far proved a scratchless means of dusting my car.

For a daily driver with ground effects I recommend using the larger duster for the roof, hood, trunk, doors, and fenders. I recommend using the smaller (dash) duster on the lower areas below the moldings. This will prevent re-tracking any of the larger particulate (that found on the lower areas of the car) over the rest of the more visible areas. This technique requires more frequent purchases of the smaller duster ($4-6) but will save your finish in the long run.

I also agree with the others: product is for light dust or pollen but no heavy dirt or soil.

Parafin streaking that may occur with the first or second use eventually goes away, and easily buffs true with a MF.

CCD. Great tool and labor saving device. I would not own a black car without it.

Does no damage if used properly. Shall I repeat that?

Got the dash duster for Christmas..An equally great tool.

I dig it. I use it with just light dust. My office has a lot of woods around it being in the burbs and every day I have dust on it. A qucik swipe of the CCD works great then when I get home I take 5 mins and use a QD with a MF it looks great and is very safe.

I love my CCD...

It works great right after you wax your car. Only for light pollen and dust. Don't try using it to actually clean your car...won't work, and it'll leave parafin streaks.

I use my CCD only on the top surfaces of the car (from about mid door level up), reason being I don't want to get the brake dust that accumulates behind the wheels in my duster. drrac2's tip on using a dash duster on the lower areas is a good one, I'll have to try that.

My 8yr old CCD still occasionally streaks in very hot, humid weather but the Z6 takes care of that.

I bought two of them....one for the wife. After a year of so she had NEVER used it so I started using that one to do the top half of my truck and took the one I had been using almost daily and use it for the bottom half. I use the dash duster to dust the chrome wheels and it works great....especially since this old guy doesn't have to lean over so far when using it. :o :up
