Would Opti-Seal work over 476s and s100?

I've got a few layers of 476s on my car and one layer of mixed s100/476s. Would putting a coat of opti seal over that reduce the longevity of the waxes, or anything? I just like the look of opti-seal better, I think.

Any thoughts?

Used opti-seal over Souveran and P21S - Worked great and the Optimum folks specifically told me it can be applied over/under/between carnauba....

According to optimum it doesnt matter whether your apply OS over or under because the sealant will always find its way to the top.

One other thing - Make sure it is a well-cured carnauba. Let it sit a day or so or apply OS after a wash. That's what I did and it looked great.

My understanding is that on uncured waxes, the cross-linking resins in Opti-Seal will sink causing any residual silicon or oils in the uncured wax to rise detracting from the aesthetics.

I usually wait a full week, plus wash the car before using OS over carnauba. It gives the paint a really wet look and durability seems typical of OS (5+ months).

Scott -

How solventy is OS ? Moreso, in ref to OS playing/removing/diluting the 'nuba ?

I'm plannning to winterize 2 of the cars and debating on which products to use up as well. I was planning on colloniting all vehicles and planning mid-way through the winter, I would just give it a strong power wash and then optiseal it since OS application is so easy.

I normally don't wash the cars at all during the entire winter cycle as it's useless - once clea, the next time u take it for a drive, it will just get as salt battered as it was before it was clean.

Optiseal certainly does not appear to be high in solvent. In all honesty I have never noted any "drag" while putting it on.

Remember one ounce of this product should do 5-6 vehicles so it is not like you are washing something off. It is a simple wipe on and walk away product. From my experience it is very durable.

I don't see it diluting the carnauba but see it adding to it.

Would the OS last 5+ months, and then the 476s that is under it still be there to last as long as it normally last? Or the does the OS cancel that out?

I would not expect more than 5 months from any combination in our climate from a daily driver. I put one coat of OptiSeal on the roof of my daily driver that sits outside 24/7 and it gets washed every week. After 3 months the protection was still evident but I felt that I could class OS as being very durable and I added more coats.

Several coats on the lower panels were lasting well at this time. The Collinite products are very durable as is OS. The easier product to use is OS. Both products look great and will work well. Someone in a southern clime (but not too hot) may do better than me.

Although I like to have a couple of durable products available for winter's crap I don't mind waxing or sealing my cars.

You would be fine using Collinite products or OptiSeal (along with numerous other products).

sweet. What about if I put s100 over a few layers of collinite, then go back to a layer of collinite? Would the s100 make the top collinite layer fall off quickly?

I really am not sure how those two products would react or if they would in fact layer. I have used OptiSeal and have used it over a carnauba with success but I have not experimented with othe carnaubas over or under Collinite. Try it but make sure you allow enough time for curing between coats.

Now *that* sounds like a COS to me. It implies that the sealant never cures.

Well, I didnt wash the car, but I did wait 2 days after applying my s100/476s mix. I just finished putting on a coat of OS, and right away it looks a whole lot wetter than it did before, even in the dimly lit garage. Something about my blue paint maybe, it just looks soaking wet when I put the OS on. I hope it does not hurt the durability because I'd like the collinite underneath to last most of the winter.

I'll take pics tomorrow, it is supposed to be sunny!
