Hello all,

This is my first post here and I must say, there is more information here than I ever thought was available in the detailing world. I'm new to this game and have only used a few recognized products that are spoken of around here such as zymol and meguires. This forum has to be one of the finest I've ever joined and I love the fact that everyone here gets along and is so helpful. Thi splace is absolutely wonderful ! !

My first detailing project is going to be restoring a black leather interior from a bmw //m5. I just ordered products from "Leatherique". I read so many positive things about these products that I had to try them for myself. The people at Leatherique were incredibly friendly and helpful and answered all my questions promptly. I'd love to hear opinions from all of you on these products or any other comments you may have.

Thank You in Advance

I want to send some pics to show you the interior, but I haven't been able to post any pics. I haven't figured out how to do it yet.

Any help will greatly be appreciated.

WELCOME PHILLIP

I cannot wait to hear about Leatherique as well. I have an old leather recliner with oily greasy head stains in it that I would love to remove. I read up on Leatherique some time ago and was about to try it but I will wait for you to post some results.

Hurry up and do your testing and review. Please!

in the bottom of the reply window is a section titled attach file. Make sure yours is the acceptable format than browse your computer for it.

You can search that because I have seen it asked bunches of times before.

Well I'm just waiting for the products to arrive in the mail. As soon as they arrive I will get to work. The only thing is that I have to find out what I will use to dye the leather, a brush or spray. I have no experience with either and hopefully somebody will give me some advice .

Maybe the cleaner will be all you need I would wait to try it first.

I read on Leatheriques website where they make dye products. Since you are going to try leatherique I would wait and try it than check with them about dyes for your seats.

Also you may want to check about the coating many manufacturers put on their seats and how it will effect a dying process.

Philip:

Unless George at Leatherique looked at your pictures and advised dye, I would try to go without it first.

Follow the detailed directions on the Leatherique website for using the Rejuvinator Oil, then the Prestine Clean. If your leather is really dry, you may want to do the RO twice.

I have seen really bad looking pictures of leather that freshened up just fine without dyes.

I am betting that you will not need it.

For the RO and PC, I use a spray bottle to apply each. I go through almost 8 ounces of RO on almost new leather. As long as the leather soaks it up, I keep spraying it on!

Thanks michaelb so much for your post

I did deal with George directly and he recommended using the dye for that perfect finish and so I accepted his advice. Obviously, when I see the results I get with the Rejuvinator Oil and the Prestine Clean, I will know if it will be necessary for the dye. I really want a perfect job so I'll have the dye handy if I need it.

I just got off the phone with them and man did I got some tips for this old leather recliner of mine.

They suggested to clean the human oils out of the leather to use hydrogen peroxide first. Then follow up with their rejuvinator and cleaner products.

They also said the coatings on new seats are actually a part of the new EPA freindly dyes manufacturers use now. New seats should be treated like leather of old and apply a conditioner. Of course they recommend theirs.

Interesting. I wonder what the other conditioning manufactures say?

Just some interesting words for all to consider.

Guess,

I try to use Leatherique 3 times a year on my cars. I love the results. Both cars are new. I have no idea what the leather will look like 15 years from now!

Michael-

If you don't mind me asking - which products do you use on the new cars?

I figured I'd leave well enough alone with my new MB, since it probably comes with all kinds of protectants - but I have two big bottles of Leatherique to use if I should feel so inclined.

Did you notice any improvement in new leather with either the Rejuvenator Oil or Prestine Clean?

Thanks,

-J

John:

I use both the Rejuvinator Oil and the Prestine Clean.

I notice two things.

One, the leather has a very nice "glow" (no other way to describe) after using the products.

Two, the RO pulls dirt, oils, and such to the surface of the leather so that the PC can remove them. I am amazed at how much dirt and gunk gets into the seats. The XKR spends all its time in garages, has been driven only 4,900 miles in 16 months, and never been eaten or drinken (?) in. The leather coughs up a meaningful amount of dirt at each cleaning!

BW

That is unbelievable! :D

Sounds good, but I'm scared to fool around with those kinds of mixes, but I'll tell you what. I have an interior of a 190 16v that is black leather also that I'm sure I can try it on. It doesn't need it, but I guess i can try it for fun, but first I have to do the real work on the bmw interior and then we'll have a little fun on the merecedes :)

Please don't be offended in any way, it's just that I don't want to have to replace anything in case I screw it up, especially since BMW said that they can't get those parts anymore.
