Worst Decision Ever

I have come to the conclusion that movie to Myrtle Beach, SC has been the worst decision ever. I moved here after college with my parents this past June thinking it would be a great way to start the next chapter of my life...boy was I wrong. I didn't look into jobs before I moved because I knew I was going to chill out for a while and enjoy the beach, the new house and reflect on 4 years of hard work as I looked at my degree over my bed. I started looking for a job back in September, went on a few interviews, got frustrated and chilled out for a while and started all over again. January rolls around and right after New Years, I got 3 phone calls from 3 different employers asking me to come in for interviews. 2 of them were for here in Myrtle and 1 was for back where I used to live. The one back in VA was for a juvenile detention center and they wanted me to come up and do a job observation to see if I thought that is what I wanted to do. I loved it but they could only offer me a PT job with no benefits for 2 months and I just couldn't afford to move up there and then count on PT work to pay bills and have a place to live. I was offered a job here in Myrtle with a resort making a decent hourly wage but at the same time, the job that I wanted with the Myrtle Beach PD (office type job) needed me to do some testing and an interview. The job with the resort told me to go ahead and do the testing and then let them know how everything turned out and if I wanted the position it was mine, if I didn't, that was fine too. I did all the testing, passed, did the interview, went well so I called the resort job back to let them know, no answer, left messages...NOTHING. A few weeks ago I started hearing from my references that I put down on the application that the PD was calling them to check references and they were doing background on me....good sign, right?! I got a letter today saying I didn't get the job but thanks for applying....................2 months of waiting and turning down a SURE job, backfired on me! I don't know what the heck I'm going to do now. College degree and can't even get a real job in the field I have a degree in and to top it off, I can't even get Best Buy or Circuit City to call me back for a PT job. What gives?!!!? I might start printing detailing flyers again and see how that turns out. Last time I did it I got one customer, but she hired me for 3 trucks so it was a good deal..for 3 days and some decent money. I feel like bashing me head into a brickwall and giving up. 4 years of busting my butt to stay above a 3.0 GPA and graduating with honors isn't getting me anywhere..............

I finished my masters degree in December and had starting looking for a job before then. I am still unemployed. I'm just trying to be patient. I know eventually I'll find something. I think you're just frustrated over what happened with the police department.

On the upside it sounds like your living with your parents. So, I'm sure your expenses are not huge. If you were living on your own you would be in a much worse situation.

Sounds like it sucks man.
I feel an awful lot the same--bad decisions. We'll see how it all plays out. Whatever doesn't kill us makes us ugly, you know.

Keep on trying man! Dont give up, it would be foolish to give up after all that hard work. If you love detailing then maybe start mobile detailing. YOu dont really need to dump to much money to get started. You wouldnt even need a full rig, You could just use a clients water and power source. IF anything get some detailing clients and do that while you do the job hunt. Good luck!

I say just keep your head high and just take your time... the right job will come along... somewhere. If not, you sure got a clean sweet car!

It took me almost a year to find my current sucky ass job. I spent the time doing home improvement stuff, and actually made more money doing that than I do at my regular job. I didn't have insurance though and that was a big thing hanging over my head. If I could have found reasonably priced insurance I would have never stopped doing home improvement stuff. Don't always look at it in a bad light that your getting turned down. Everything happens for a reason. I've learned that the more I feel i'm screwed, the better things turn out in the end. Weird that way I guess.

If I remember right from awhile back you talked about a job at the local PD, but not in the field. Was your degree in criminal justice? I don't know what your long term goal is, but the South Carolina Highway Patrol is hiring. They are looking for several people for diffrent postions. They have great bennifts and the start out pay isn't bad. If you are interested visit their web page and see what they have to offer. Good luck.

My problem is that for most of the time while I was getting my degree I was working in an entirely different field. By the time I finished my bachelor's (criminal justice too, by the way) I was making more money in my other career than I could walk into in my degree field. It's not a bad thing really. I enjoyed school and am going back again this fall to finish a degree in a field that will help me more in this career field. What I've learned is that you don't necessarily have to work in the field that your degree is in. Get a job somewhere and look for ways to apply what you learned in school to that job and keep your eyes open. IMO it's more important to just have a job than it is to have one in your degreed field.

Dont forget you have your health!! You are young you will survive as long as you don't keep chilling out. Bumps in the road are normal, only the strong survive. remamber with your health nobody can stop you. It will all work out ,stay strong.
