Woolite for Leather

I would also add that I really don't respect PRO detailers who don't know how to use a rotary or cannot touch up paint (this is on a professional level, not a personal level). Again this is not personal at all, my best friend is an artist, but can't paint. I love him to death, but shouldn't an artist atleast be able to draw.



Personally, I think many people on here are amazing people. Professionally, there are a lot that fall short, IMO. So when somebody who does wash and waxes for a living is out there giving a lot of unwarrented advice, you have to question the source. I'm sorry that it could be construed that I am comming off as a jerk or elitist, but the truth, I have much to learn.



The people I look up to professionally are Rydawg, JoshVette, VaSuperShine, Picus, 01BlueCLS, PIYU, G35Stiles, (there are SO many others its not even funny, so please don't get offended if I left you out) when I read their threads, it makes me want to push myself to another level.

Scottwax does a lot more than wash and wax. He does not need to buff out his clients cars very often because he makes sure to wash them properly and not induce marring.



If you want correction from scott, look at his recent click and brag about polishing his new car with optimum hyper compound.



And your mention of "unwanted advice" hints that scott's advice is not wanted... Scott's advice has lots of experience behind it.



In case you forgot, scott has been detailing as his main source of income for over 10 years, seeing multiple cars per day, and has over 20k posts on autopia... If that doesn't qualify his advice as valuable I don't know what does!

I agree that his advice is valuable, of course it is!!! He has the experience, but like anybody's advice, it is only valuabe to certain people. My highschool coach told me how to run the ball, but he wouldn't give Walter Payton that advice.... (I don't know if that makes any sense).

While I agree with the idea that using the best products allows you to give the best service...Id like to know what exactly is in Leatherique leather cleaner that makes it work better then other cleaners.



I've been told NOT to use my leather cleaner on a E500 AMG. They supplied their own personal cleaner (never gave me the name...). I use 2 systems now depending on what the customer wants. A woolite based cleaner, and a boutique ph balanced cleaner. If a customers needs are truly the point of offering the best....then the best might just be offfering choices.

Because you know vinyl and/or vinyl coatings have PORES.....
 
I've been reading this Forum for a good while and every so often I learn something that really helps me with my own little detailing business. Thanks Scott, appreciate the tip.

I know it does because I have used dedicated leather cleaners in the past and they haven't cleaned the leather any better or more deeply. I wouldn't have even known about the Woolite/water method if it hadn't been for the leather car tag (from the leather company, not Cadillac) on a De Ville I used to take care of.



BTW, Todd, your editing skills aren't as good as your detailing skills, others already pulled your quote so I know how you feel about me. Not sure why I deserve an unprovoked attack from you, but whatever.

GUYS! There is no need for this! He may be claiming it, and if he is THEN HE IS RIGHT!!!! There is absolutely no need for name calling, or being mean to anyone. I think this is simple. Two guys disagree, it happens everyday! Move on. I have never tried woolite but am planning on it sometime in the future. Same with Leatherique. And also, i dont see why we are bringing vinyl into this, or are you referring to fake leather or leather with a vinyl coating on it? I thought that the higher end cars dont have vinyl on them? If this is the case the cars he deals with dont have vinyl anywhere near him.



BTW, you just insulted one of the highest respected member of this site. In my mind he is one of the best in the world and i think a few other member would agree.



Lets just get on with life, because i have a feeling this thread is going to be locked.

You sure about that? Respected he may be, but I've seen him disrespect quite a few others.

I feel I was out of line and basically acted very immature. I may not agree with you on several issues, but for me to "call you out" was completely wrong. I don't know what else to say, but rather then make excuses, all I can say is that I am sorry.



As far as respecting me as a person goes, I'm sure I dropped a few notches in everybodies eyes, and I don't blame them. On a public forum, we are all judged on the things we say. And the things I said warrent a pretty harsh judgement, IMO.

My skills or the "cool" click and brags I post give me no right to disrespect others. Infact it only makes me look like a jerk and an elitist, and I'm sorry to everybody who I have given this view too. There isn't much to say past that, but I have no excuses.
 
IMO you have just manned up to your mistakes and i think that it takes guts to do that. I respect you for that.



I do not solely respect you and "worship" you because you detail AWESOME cars (but you do handle nice cars!:bounce ), i do this for the same reason you DO detail the best of the best cars. Because your skills are AMAZING! Everyone makes mistakes, we are all human! I have made TONS, and i will continue to do so. You may have made a mistake speaking publicly in a forum but you have not made a mistake in detailing a car i am sure. :waxing: :woot: :birthday: :bounce :D
