Wool Pads??

I have a rotory on the way and an oportunity to practice on a few trucks here at work. They are light blue with heavy oxidation on the hoods. Yesterday I used #83 and SSR2.5 with an orange LC pad and made an improvement with the DA but I am looking to take it up a notch.

Which wool pads are you guys using?

For my Makita I am impartial to Lake Country pads, IMO they make the best wool and foam pads available. They have an extensive line of wool cutting and polishing pads so give them a look at www.lakecountrymfg.com. Its good to know that you have some old hoods to practice on before hand, good luck and if you have questions about the pad selection feel free to ask.

Thats where I was looking. What do you recommend...the wool blend or the prewashed knitted? I will also be using a 6" hook&loop, do I get the 7.5" just like the foam pads?

If you have the 6" plate get the 7.5" pads, that way you'll be safe in not touching the surface with the rotating plate. I would personally order atleast one type of cutting and one type of polishing pad to get the feel for the difference in the cutting/polishing ability that each pad has. In most cases the 50:50 Wool/Acrylic cutting pads will be aggressive enough to remove bad scratches and oxidation, pair them with the prewashed lambswool pads for lighter polishing of less severe scratches and you'll be set. Green or White foam pads will remove any hazing left behind by the compounding when used with a product like VM or #80.

I took my first step with a rotary by using the LC tufted foam pads. Very forgiving, the car came out great & no damage (burning or holograms) of any kind. ScottP at www.specialtymotoring.com carries them & there's a sale this weekend.

Very confidence inspiring 'cause I didn't have the nerve to use a wool pad on my first time out.

Great, thanks for the help.

I will pick up your suggested pads. The lighting in the garage if horrible but I will post the best pics possible of my results. I can't wait to try the rotory.
