Wool Pad Preperation on the Pad?

David, can I spur it with a tool like the big yellow one they sell on AG? its the only one I have, its also the Edge foam conditioning brush (same tool).

I dont know exactly what spurring the pad means? I just assume its ok to wash in water then spin dry?

Jim

Duo Spur Wool & Foam Pad Cleaning Tool: Scrub dirty pads clean with this multi-pupose cleaning tool!

Spurring is not really a substitute for cleaning. Some guys just spur their pads and call it good, but it's really more of a step you do while using your pad to keep it usable.

anything I can use in place of a spur, or should I wait to get one before I start using my wool?

Thanks Superbee

Jim

You could use the big yellow handle brush, but it's kinda hard on the wool pad. Just be gentle with it, and you should be ok. You'll definitely want to order a spur, though.

cool, Ill try that out, I hope I dont destroy mynew pads tomorrow! How many cars can you get out of one side of an Edge2k wool pad?

Thanks a million SuperBee!

Jim

My pleasure, man. :)

It kinda depends... Most of the time, I can finish each polishing step using both sides of a double sided pad. That's with alot of spurring, though.

Thanks, I mean how many cars can one side of your edge 2k wool do before you have to throw it out.

for example, they say the foam can do 10-20 cars before its toast. How does wool compare to that number?

Im off to bed Superbee, but man do I owe you. If your ever in Tampa, dinner is on me man!

Yes - the one that EDGE offers works great on foam pads. You'll need a different one (metal) for wool pads. Each one has to be use for each type of pad.

Spurring doesn't require you to wet your pad. It's mostly done dry. Spurring your pad cleans off all (you hope) the old and dried up product from your pad. Having a clean pad makes for a swirl free finish and allows your pad you glide over the surface easier. I spur my pad after each body panel I buff and sometimes twice on larger panels like a hood or 1/4 panel. Hope this helps.
