Wndows - Greasy film...

My windows are driving me mad. I have this film on the windows that I cant get rid of. I tried Stoners and Sprayway but it just seems to be moving the film around. Is this any thing you guys can recommend to cut this "film"?

I just bought some Rag Company glass towels to help tackle this problem but new towels alone obviously aren`t going to do it. You can see the film on the far edge and base of the window.


 
On the outside of the window?
I`ve used Spray 9 and Magic Erasure to clean my glass, followed by soap and water followed by Invisible Glass.
I also have Autogym glass polish.
Id also suspect your wiper blades as they may be leaving something on the window. I use a silicone spray called Grip Slip to clean my wider blades.

A few background questions for you: how long are you allowing the glass cleaner to dwell for? And what have you been using to remove the cleaners with - ie paper towels? microfibers? How warm is it where you are located? Is the windshield coated with anything?

I`ve got a few ideas but want to know more about what you`ve tried so far etc.
 
The film is on the inside for the most part. I used The car is a 2001 w 15,000 miles on it. I dont spray the inside of the window because given the angle of the window I`d get more spray on the dash than I would on the window. I use a MF made for glass and spray the cleaner on the MF. It does seem to happen when it`s more humid...

I used Duragloss window polish on the ouside and it worked well. I hesitate to use it on the inside because it dusts like crazy...
 
D, I`d verify you don`t have a coolant leak.

Next, I`d lay towels across the dashboard to cover it completely. I`d then thoroughly wet the inside of the glass and scrub at it a bit with your preferred glass towel. I`d spray again and then squeegee the glass dry. If not clean, repeat process with a different glass cleaner.

Do you have any opti seal on hand?

This is my new favorite glass cleaner.
A couple sprays on a yellow foam applicator and clean the window like you normally would. Remove it before it flashes off. I use one of the green glass MF`s from the rag company. Works perfectly and never any streakes.

One of the things I like most is the glass towel doesn`t get grabby when drying. It just glides across the glass.

The rag company just did a video on this with optimum.

Ok thanks for the additional info. I`m thinking the streaking is a result of the glass cleaners either drying too fast, or not enough is being used. Hard to say for sure.

Try this: using 2 low nap mf`s, one damp with HOT water and the other mf dry - both folded into 4`s. Use the damp mf to wipe down 1/2 of the inside glass flipping the towel often to fresh surfaces. Really give the glass a good once over - then before the water has a chance to evaporate - wipe it clean with the dry towel. Rinse the damp towel thoroughly before starting on the remaining dirty 1/2 of the windshield. This process always works for me.
 
There is great info already shared here - I cannot add anything to this except --

You need to use this tool to get all that inside glass better than trying to do it by hand only --- Stoner Invisible Glass Reach & Clean Tool

This is all I ever use when Detailing and of course I tested it on my own vehicles and it worked really great..

For the sunroof glass above your head, nothing works better...

And that angled back window glass - this will get everything..

I dont use their foam pads covers they sell with it - instead, I just wrap a good microfiber, absorbent, non shedding fine fibers towel around the triangular part and use 1 to clean, quickly change to another to wipe dry, and it really works great for me..
I do it in 2 sections - left side from driver seat, right side from passenger seat. Overlap in the middle..

You may be getting some products off-gassing from the plastic of the Dash or sometimes, the products you use on the top of the Dash, so watch what you use on there...

We can talk about those products with you also, if you want..

And 3rd the vote from Tom P - check to make sure you are not leaking anti-freeze from the heater core inside the passenger side of your car, just to be sure..

Did you say it is a VW? A buddy of mine had the same problem with his 2012 Passat. I hit the glass with my steam cleaner, I use Ardex `s Heavy duty glad cleaner and he said it was gone. I also use the blue huck towels.
 
I had a greasy spot on my windshield. I got rid of it with following method. Meguiar`s APC 10:1 on brand new clean microfiber, dry with clean MF. I then cleaned off all the residual APC with my IPA polish remover mixture of 10% IPA and distilled water with clean MF. Lastly, I cleaned the glass with Stoners invisible glass.

worked perfectly for my greasy spot.

I wouldn`t use the glass towels until you have the grease spot completely gone.

I would never suggest Opti Seal on the windshield. It is made to make water bead which will then creat water on the inside of the windshield that would run down into the dash. That`s a bad deal IMO.




For this this glass the CarPro FastGlass towels work great. In fact they are so good that is all in need on interior glass. No cleaner

Sorry for the bad advice.

Seems to work great for me and I haven`t had any problems yet. It`s been pretty dewy and damp in the mornings and hot and humid in the afternoon. No strange fogging or anything.

Don`t listen to my bad advice OP.

Please don`t take what I said the wrong way, as I too could be wrong. It was not my intent to put it down just giving my opinion and views on the process.

I know that there are some that have started using Opti-Seal for almost everything including interior dressing and window cleaner. But I am not sure that any that I am aware of any that suggest it for the windshield, only the sides from what I know. Honestly Dr. G would be the guy to ask on this one.

Sorry I took offense it was late. You are right though maybe I shouldn`t use it on the windshield but so far it has worked great.

I don`t post that much and when I do I`m very hesitant to give advice for fear of steering someone in the wrong direction.

Just trying to help though. Thanks for your post and input troy. I do appreciate it.

Just sent Optimum a Facebook message to make sure and they said Opti-seal can safely be used on all interior glass including the windshield and aftermarket tint.

Figured I would pass along the info.
