With what I use, is it ok to detail so much?

Hi, long time reader, first time poster.

I have had a new car since june of 05. I "detail" it on average in the spring/summer/fall every 2-4 weeks depending on how clean it stays. Its red by the way.

I do all of my detailing by hand, although I do have a PC. I sometimes use the PC on really bad cars that I do for other people. Other than that, the other peoples cars that I do, get detailed by hand as well. Mostly the PC use used for spot work on panels with scratches or whatever.

Anyways, as you know I like to detail a lot. I have been reading about polishing too much and all of that, and I just want to know could I have already harmed my paint, or am I on my way?

I wash the truck using meguires car wash (its in a pink bottle)..

NORMALLY I the pull it in the garage and hit it up with the 3M Hand Glaze.

Then I use meguires gold class paste wax and wax it.

On occasion, I will use Menzerna's Final Polish, and polish it, and then use the 3M Hand Glaze and then wax it using meguires paste wax.

I dont think I have ever used Menzernas intensive polish on it, if I did, I only did it once.

Remember I do everything by hand.

Am I doing so bad? Can I continue to do that? Is there any other recomendations I should do to complete a detail?

On other peoples cars (since I may only do them once or twice a year) I wash it of course, and then may start with the polish. Depending on how the paint looks is when I determine whether it will be Menzerna Intensive, or Final II, and then move on to the hand glaze and then wax.

I did do one whole car with the PC and Menzerna Intensive, but the paint was bad, and had some major scratches on it, it looked like it had been thru the wood.

I dont think any of my stuff is all that abrasive, but I just want to check with the more experienced forum members before I start off 2006.

I think your doing fine. I usually polish about 2 maybe 3 times a year. I just try different LSPs when I can (about every 2 months or so). When I want to use a different combo I will bring out the polish/glaze to remove whatever is on at that time. I also do everything by hand.

..[Description of detailing regimen follows]...

The stuff you're using is about as mild as it gets. The IHG and your LSP are nonabrasive and the FP is *so* mild that I can't imagine it *ever* becoming an issue (at least not by hand/PC).

While I :nono about overpolishing all the time, I've used much more aggressive regimens on numerous cars for many years with no problems at all. I wouldn't hesitate to use the PC for the FP, I'm absolutely certain you'll still be fine, based on my experiences with products that are more aggressive than the FP.

And welcome to Autopia! It was kinda refreshing to tell somebody that they can get *more* aggressive :D
