wish me luck!!!

With my experience of Klasse, Dawn doesn't affect the layer. I have experienced this with all the cars below, a Lexus LS430 with pearl white-ish paint, and a black '92 BMW 325i. I'm not sure who makes the paint of the cars though...

As someone here said before, modern clearcoats bead, but you can tell the difference of water beading on a Klasse'd surface and a squeaky clean surface.

I would wash your car with Dawn to remove the Collinite, and then maybe with a regular pH balanced car shampoo. Then start with the Blitz.

Good luck and have fun!

Good points, DK and BW.

I don't think there is a need for any product in place of Dawn or a similar high alkaline, oil/wax cutting product.

I have used Dawn on Zainoed cars, but I feel it is not a good idea, generally. Not because it will strip the Z. It might remove a bit, but it did not strip all the Z off. However, it did leave a "film." It really dulled the paint. Sal says this is a detergent film. Washing twice with Z7 removed the film.

Car shampoos, at least good ones, are mild and also do not leave a detergent film. Some, like Z7, are intended to leave a film, but, in the case of Z7, the "film" is actually replacement Z (an attempt to improve the longevity of the protection coat.)

I ordered the ABC system.

I hope that by me not using Dawn (Strip) and Ivory (Wash) the end of the world as we know it can be avoided.

:D :D :D :D

I love how simple questions can become so detailed. My wife thinks I have lost my mind.

ROFLMAO

I don't know, it seems to me that improperly using Dawn <em class='bbc'>could open the door to the appearance of the anti-Christ, don't you think? ;)

The Dawn I know is one good looking chick with a great smile, tan body, long hair ..................

Oh wait Ya'll talking about dish soap. Sorry Never mind!

Dawn will definitely NOT remove Klasse. I know this for a fact. I had 5 coats of Klasse SG on and I tried two Dawn washes. It didn't do much. How do I know? Well I currently have a 2000 vehicle and I simply parked it to a 2001 and 2002 similar car with identical paint color. The Klasse SG caused my silver-grey paint to become grey. I wasn't too pleased with the grey color so I decided to remove the Klasse and to give Zaino a try. After 2 washes with Dawn, the color of my car was virtually identical. What really helped was a wash of Isopropyl Alcohol. Actually it was 2 washes. This seemed to strip the Klasse SG much better than Dawn. Well now my car is back to its original color and nearly if not identical to the 2001s and 2002s color and I'm much happier. Laters.

Please call me Don.

Todd, I've been using Zaino for a few months now and have been pleased with it so far. It looks great on silver and doesn't seem to darken the color at all. It does indeed appear to be optically clear. For darker colored cars though, I'd still prefer Klasse. Laters.

i just washed and dried my car and tomorrow i'm gonna clay it, seal it and wax it the rest of the weekend (while watching the Masters of course). last weekend i did the interior (not that it needed much done). i've been reading and absorbing all the tips to detailing on this forum and feel i'm ready to go. Got the PCXP and my pads all lined up (my wife thinks i'm nuts). one question though, i'm going to use Menzerna FMJ and i wonder if this can be layered i.e. let it cure overnight and add a second coat or is this not necessary or overkill? thanks

Yes, FMJ can be layered, although I personally would only do two layers 8-12 hours apart. I've put up to five layers and it didn't look any better than the first coat. I just put two just to make sure I've covered all surfaces.

Remember pictures are in order, and yes you may layer FMJ just wait 4-8 hrs to put a second coat on.

I agree with both posts above. Do a second coat just to make sure that you get complete coverage.

On another note, all of our wives think we are nuts until we detail their cars. Do hers as well as yours, and she will appreciate your newfound detailing obsession a bit more.

yes pictures are in order but my wife is the computer geek who shows me how to do things. i guess i may HAVE to detail her ride ( not that i don't, just first things first).

Tell her you just need to practice first on your ride just to make sure she gets the best service! You want to make sure your skills are up to what she should get!!!

Good luck and share some pics if you can!

The luck worked!

I completed everything yesterday but its taken me almost as long to figure out how to post some pictures (my wife was not around to help me). i hope the link works. the details of the detail are: 1) 2 bucket wash with ONR 2) wheels cleaned with Menzerna tire/wheel cleaner 3) clayed using Blackfire clay/lube kit 4) 2 coats Menzerna FMJ for sealant 5) rims and wheels with Wheel Wax and Black Magic matte finish 6) exhaust with Wenol Red topped with Wheel Wax 7) LSP: Pinnacle Signature Series II wax. A couple of other things...I did not drop my clay, i like sniffing the wax, and the sealant/wax steps were so easy that i think i briefly attained the "detailer's high" ( that or i sniffed too much wax).http://s908.photobucket.com/albums/ac286/pmdureska/car%20detail/?action=view&current=DSC02256-1.jpg
