Wiping polish to check progress

What are you using to wipe the surface down during polishing to check your progress? I`ve frequently use 205 and ultra-polish and they are very oily so I find when I try to wipe down a section before moving on it`s a PIA as it smears everywhere. I was using M34 or other detail sprays to help but end up going through a lot of product (they aren`t really cutting it)
Anyway, what`s everyone else use or just dry rags?
M

spray and wipe

or when I`m feeling economical

onr in a bucket of distilled and a rung out damp micro

or I just use a polish that removes easier in some cases

Hmm.. I dont use 205, but yeah dry, soft, plush microfiber cloth for polishing, and whatever for compounding. maybe a spritz of IPA solution if its really greasy...

edit: for black cars... ONR.

I`ve got a bunch of different polishes (HD, Menz, GG, etc) and like most of them for different cars, different days, but 205 seems to be my go to for darker cars (maybe not black but down to dark gray)
Hmm, I`ve got PB Spray and Wipe and ONR, never even thought to try those :wall
Not sure if SW will be much different than M34 but ONR should be. I`ll have to give it a go

Are you folding your towels in fours and frequently swapping them for fresh ones? Once one side gets caked, be sure to flip the towel to a fresh side or use a new one. But I would say you need to try the BLACKFIRE DUO ;)

M205, while oily, is one of the easiest polishes to wipe away that I know of. Sounds like you may be using to much product or wiping away too soon.

The TradeSecretOils in M205 drove me nuts. While the product residue wiped away easily, the way the TSO permeated or were retained in/on the paint was a huge PIA and would cause pseudo-holograms under the most demanding lighting. Thank goodness I switched to HD Polish which has none of these issues and finishes out better.

To strip the TOS, I used PrepWash/AkyraClean (?sp? and the name seems to change..) from TOL and it worked much better than IPA or anything else I tried. If I didn`t have that on-hand I`d probably buy Eraser or something like that.

I do use M34 when buffing off M105/M101 though, seems to cut down the micromarring a little bit.

Since the release of Meguiar`s D114, I have used roughly a 22-25% IPA solution in a 32 ounce bottle with 1 ounce of D114 added. It was later posted that Meguiar`s discovered a 1:15 ratio of D114 and just water was strong enough to remove their polish oils. I know a few people who have continued to use this mix with zero issues, including myself.

***Edit***

If you go to Meguiar`s Online, my thread is titled "Another Use For D114 - Rinse Free Express Wash. I received some criticism at first but was privately messaged discussing how well the mix worked.

Unfortunately D114 has been discontinued. But it works well at 15:1.

Yup, and decent towels (TRC 800s)

Also, try using a little less polish and working it into the paint a little more. I found that helpful.

I don`t think I`m using to much but I might not be working it long enough with the cyclo compared to the normal DA.I`m letting it work out like normal but since it`s not as "hot" it`s probably not flashing off properly. Not used to it being this bad to wipe off

I typically use pretty much product with M205, working more-or-less via the KBM. AND...I don`t work it all that long as I *NEVER* let such products dry/flash off...NEVER. SO maybe I can`t be of any real help here after all! :o

Eh, that`s the sort of thing that drove me to retire my M205 (which I still hope somebody will buy some day...). On some vehicles it was just a huge PIA. (Admittedly it was easy to use on others.)

Am I reading your post right?...You`re using a Cyclo?!? Wow, I thought I was maybe the only guy here who uses that machine! FWIW, I never liked M205 (or M105 either for that matter) via Cyclo. For one thing, with a 4" pad I`m cleaning/replacing the pad *ALL THE TIME*...which also drives me nuts when doing spot-correction with 3-4" pads. Eh, maybe that`s just me...but again, my east-if-expensive solution is to switch to a different product like HD Polish (which is used in very small quantities so IMO it`s good via small pads).

I`m wondering if the plushness of this towel is not letting you remove all of the polish. I noticed that the higher GSM towels from TRC work best with spray waxes and detailers but not so much to remove polishes and compounds. I`ve had much better success wiping off M205 with a Meg`s supreme shine or a TRC edgeless 365.

Ive got a ton of eagle blues that I use for compounds, interiors, etc. I`ve always used the plusher ones for final polish / glaze but I`ll give a couple of new blues a try

Normally love 205/UP for finals except for the wipe during process. Final wipe down after finished is fine it`s just the quick wipe while polishing to see how it`s going that bothers me. HD polish isn`t nearly as bad, again not much product used, menz 3800 somewhere in-between.

I still prefer using the cyclo for final polish / glaze on curvy surfaces as it lets me get into areas (like near emblems and trim) where the 15mm buffer is a little sketchy. Sometimes I`ll use the PC with a 5-1/2 pad but can`t take than much vibration for that long anymore.

Ok, what do you know? Spill it, or I`m sending the d114 lovers association to your house, lol. Really, is Meg`s bringing out a new d114 for SEMA?

I`m thinking that since he is involved with the Gloss Shop that they may be introducing something similar to D114.

Not to my knowledge. I just know what has been publicly stated about it being discontinued. With SEMA next week I suspect a lot of announcements.
