Winter wax

What will be your go to product for winter weather protection this year??
Do you change from good weather to severe weather products or just keep using the same products throughout the year. :inspector:

I live in central NC and usually have enough days where it is 50-55 F in the garage to most anything I want to do (ONR, wax/seal).

I put on as many coats of EX-P as I can between the beginning of November until the end of winter. I don't wax during the winter months. If the temp. is 40 or higher I'm good to go.:passout:

Collinite #845 usually but I found a local supplier of Collinite products this year so I think I am going to give Marque D Elegance a try this winter. For my personal car I change it up to a different more durable wax during the winter months.

Collinite 476S as the topcoat for winter.

I wash my cars weekly during the Ohio winter. It's (cleanliness) the best way to keep them protected from salt and road grime damages.

The wife's white Expedition will get a coat or 2 of EX, & a coat of Natty's White. The Mustangs stay in the garage until March or April.:D

I usually go with 845IW for the winter about two coats in mid October and the first warm day in Jan I put another two coats on for the rest of the winter. But I might switch it up a bit and do something like BFWD topped with 845IW just for the hell of it. But 845IW and UPGP are the two choices for my winterize package that I offer to my clients.

My standard winter protection package is the following.

1. x1 - KAIO
2. x2 - KSG (Planning on doing 3 this year. I've heard the 3rd coat really brings the shine) ;)
3. x2 - 845 IW

This really is very durable and I like the way it looks on my cars.

As a longtime 845 devotee I was disappointed with 915. It doesn't have the long-lasting slickness and dirt-shedding properties I enjoy with 845. Longevity is comparable though and 915 does look sweet on dark colors! My personal feeling was that 915 wasn't worth the extra effort... at least on my white DD... compared to the ease of 845. YMMV.

I'd be interested in your thoughts after you use the 915.

Very good wax Dave, just don't let it dry to long. It is a bear to get off if put it on thick or let it dry too long. Very, very durable wax though, and it looks pretty good.

Usually use fk 1000p, this yr I'm going to try DP poli coat and Bilt Hamber Finis Wax and possibly C Quartz coating.

I added 3 coats of 845 over the past 3 weeks and now have topped with 915 I hope it will just be another coat in January or february as a maintenance. I know other wax's I have used will never last after a wash or two.

Probably the best time to use it too in the winter because I have found in the summer to be a dust magnet.

Just tried the 915 and yes it is dusty while removing as well. I think the 845 will be the best winter solution. That 915 looks great but is super hard to remove and not what most would like to work with. If ya own a bowling alley I am sure it would work great on the alley floors.

Save your money and pass the 915 by and stick with 845 IMHO.

make that another coat of DP poli sealant. :bow it was so nice in PA this morning, i was at it at 6:30am. :yikes: but i know winter is around the corner. so might as well get it done now.

Hi guys,

thanks for so much information, i live in nyc and am wondering what's the best thing i can do to protect my car in the winter from all the salt and snow. I have a black car and I want it to keep it's shine. BTW, I see you guys talk about the temp. outside, does it matter? So I can't wax if it's too cold? when the best time to wax a car? is sealant different then the 845 everyone is talking about? what is the technique to using 845?

thanks
