Winter New Car Delivery Dilemma?!

Here is my situation:



I am considering taking delivery of a new vehicle this winter. I live in Indiana where it is quite cold in the winter. I would like to have the car "untouched", ie no wash, wax, detail.



My dilemma is that I might not be able to find an environment with temperatures adequate for most detailing products.



My plan would be to wash, clay, prep and seal. I would normally use AIO followed by SG for prep and seal.



Problem:



The temperature is likely to be between 50 deg F and 0 deg F. :confused:



Can I use those products in cold weather? If not, what products can I use? Should I ask the dealer if I can use one of their heated bays? Has anyone encountered this problem? Any random suggestions about the delivery and prep?



BTW, the car will be a G35 Sedan AWD 6MT, twilight blue or diamond graphite! :D

Geez, good question! The only experience I have with Klasse in the cold was about 2 years ago....I had underground heated parking and we pulled my buddies car in, washed it, and then Klassed it (while the car was still cold as all-get-out) and it streaked like a ______ (<---insert cuss word here). We did eventually get everything evened out and I don't think it looked half bad in the end. Overall, I don't think I would put myself thru that again....
 
A pain in the *** is one thing. Not working at all is another. A nasty process is something that I can work with. Did the Klasse "stick" and provide protection? My 2 main concerns are not having the dealer put swirls in the paint and sealing my car well from the environment.



Anybody tried other products like Blackfire, Rejex, 1Z Glanz, Poorboy's EX, Zaino, Platinum UPP, etc.?? I simply want protection for the paint. I am not even concerned with shine at first.



Will I be able to clay as well in that temperature? I want to get rid of the rail dust.

Maybe you can arrange something with one those self wash bays? Tell them you'll pay them so much an hour? I am sure they wouldn't care then. If you do it during the off-hours, like in the evenings, they might not even charge you anything.
 
I wouldn't hesitate for a moment in asking the dealer for the use of one his detail bays for a day but I'd ask BEFORE i ordered the car and make it clear that I'm quite serious about getting the use of that detail bay for a day!! They're making a decent buck from you and I don't think a request such as this is too much to ask in return.



As an after-thought....You might even make a deal to rent some detail space every so often through out the winter?
 
That is definitely a good idea. I have never dealt with this dealer, but they do sell BMW, Infiniti and Mini. They have probably come across a detail freak before.



I guess if they won't accomodate me, I will take my business elsewhere.



Any opinions on what the most effective sealant would be? I am talking strictly in protection terms. I just want to get a protective coat on there for the harsh winter.

You can't go wrong with your Klasse routine. The only other product which might compete with Klasse for durability is Zaino.
 
I took delivery on my new BMW this past November, it was cold as hell. Having no access to any indoor / heated areas I made the best of it by doing a road trip to sunny Florida, spent a few days waxing and on the way home no bugs!



Kind of got a kick out of the people in rest stops/Gas stations asking where I was headed, To Florida I would say, "Oh you have family there" No IM just heading down to wax my car....
 
No garage I'm assuming otherwise, I'd get a few electric space heaters, turn them on for an hour or two and the temp should be just minimal for detailing if its around 40 outside ( I've done it even when freezing outside: just have to wait for it to warm up longer)afterwards. Maybe QEW inside the garage?

If you are flexible in terms of time, you can bring it to my shop for a warmup. I assume the Dealer is D&R. Here's an interesting point: their prep area/detail/wash bay is subleased to Enterprise Rent A Car. Will they let you use a bay? LOL



I'm happy to offer my shop to a fellow Autopian... as long as it doesn't interfere with my 'production'.



Your material, your labor, my heat & light.

Have them flatbed it to my shop - right off the transport. BTW - they reciecve a prep allowance equivalent to the towing/flatbed charge...

I work for Enterprise in another state. But, IMO they should not mind you working there for a few hours as long as you helped out cleaning the rentals as they came back :)
 
Yes, it is not official, but the G35 Sedan will be offered with ATTESSA AWD this winter. It is the same system that is on the Skyline and FX35/45. It should be great for all conditions.



It works more like the Porsche Carrera 4 system than the Audi Quattro or Subaru systems from what I understand.



According to my dealer, it will be called the G35X.
