Windshield pitting

My front windshield is pitting to the point that it's hard to see in direct sunlight. Is there anything (other than replacing the windshield) you can do to improve this condition? It seems like today's automotive glass compounds are much softer, and pit & chip much easier. $600 to replace, so I'm looking at options. I'm also getting pitting on my headlight covers (Caddy CTS). I've used VM to clear it up a bit, but only got about a 10% improvement.
 
In reality, you can make it a little better by polishing it, but that won't fix the pits...try going to a glass replacement place like Triumph and ask them for a quote for cash...if it's not insurance related the prices seem to drop very quickly
 
If you polish, be careful what you use. I polished mine once and couldn't get the white polish residue out of the pits. It actually made seeing through the glass much worse!
 
I remeber reading about a product was intended for the repair of stone chips in glass. It used an epoxy resin-type solution to fill in the pits. Can't remember the name, but I'll post it if I think about it. A really heavy cut cleaner applied with a rotary would work too, provided you can clean it out (maybe isopropyl alcohol?). You can't burn glass, :hot , so that should work well.

I agree with Steve, if you just pay for it out of your pocket they definitely knock the price down.

You cant really burn glass, but you can sure make it look horrible. If you create too much heat on your windshield the lamination WILL BUBBLE!!!! I work at an auto glass facility. You really only have two options: 1) Live with it. 2) Replace the windshield. Also, the repairs are not cosmetic repairs, often times they dont make the hit look any better, they are just to keep the hit from spreading out into a large crack.
 
Have you tried going back to Cadillac about this ? Your car isn't that old and unless you drive behind dump trucks all day this shouldn't be happening . What about your paint up front , hows that holding up ? Where did you get a quote of $600 for a windshield ?

Thanks for the feedback folks. I agree that my 2 options are: live with it, or replace it. I'll try a cash offer as my first option. I called my insurance. In DE you have to carry additional insurance for windshield replacement, which IMO is probably worth it for daily drivers.
