Windows

First off, I would like to say that this is the best Detailing site on the web! Im kinda new here so be gentle:cool:.

I have an 02 Dodge Ram Std. Cab with tinted windows. Ive tried almost everything out there to clean the windows, but I still end up with streaks. They're not noticable during the day, but as soon as night falls they appear. What can I do or use to get near or even better PERFECT results? Thanks in advance.

The search function is your friend. :D

Having said that, the answer you are seeking is Microfiber cloths and Eagle One 20/20. Don't use Windex, streaks like crazy. Also, the ammonia is bad for your interior.

My normal routine is this:

Spray 20/20 on glass or on one side of cloth, wipe down window, and flip the cloth, or use a second one to buff with the dry side. Totally streak free. When completed, pull out into the sun and you'll be able to see streaks if there are any. Follow with more dry buffing if needed. Once you have it totally streak free, it'll be easy to keep it that way.

I've not tried the Eagle stuff but I've had good success with Stoners Invisible Glass and the real secret appears to be using the mf cloth. What a difference the micro fiber towels seem to make!!

The Stoner's is my favorite and #1 choice but is it safe for tint? I never use it on my interior cause of the tint film.

Welcome Big Boi.

I'm with wheels on this one. 20/20 is great. Coupled with a Microfiber and you're golden.

Tip that I picked up here: do the outside in one direction and the inside the opposite. That way, you can tell on which side the smearing or missed spot is.

Also, using 20/20 with Newspaper work extremely well as well but you get newsprint all over your hands so where gloves. The solvents in the ink supposedly help clear the gunk.

20/20 is easy to find. If you can find Stoner's locally, then give it a whirl as it's highly recommended here. Unfortunately, I can't find it up here.

A cheap streak free alternative is a 1:1 mixture of distilled water and distilled white vinegar. Use a microfiber. The smell is nasty for a couple minutes but it will be streak free - guranteed. I use this in my home to clean glass, mirrors and tile. No need for Windex or any other glass / tile cleaners. While on the same note, I use Antibacterial / Disinfectant Simple Green dilluted in a variety of strengths for all other cleanings. I own no other chemical! Saves tons of cash over the year!

Also, Klasse AIO is good on exterior glass. Wait, it's great on glass as a matter of fact!

Im almost certain is ok for tinted windows...It says somewhere on the label, I have used it on tinted windows b4....as for the newspaper, great to use, but it does make a mess of your hands, and be careful not to get it on the interior panels while wiping !! Because that wont come off easy !!!

One other note, the MF"s work great, use for for wiping, and a seperate one for your final buff, folding one towel for the whole car more than likely wont be adequate.....

oops! I didn't see you had tinted windows! DONT USE MY SUGGESTION! It's excellent for NON tinted windows.

Stoner’s Invisible Glass and Eimann Fabrik Clear Vision are my favorites.

IMO the secret (sshh - don't tell anybody) to a really streak and lint free window is to finish will a light misting and polishing with old newspaper. New newspaper will leave your fingers black.

I just like 50% rubbing alcohol and 50% water.

Seems to work really well. And it is super cheap...which is nice

This is no joke......

All I ever use is warm water and a MicroFiber towel....inside and out. Works wonderfully on interior tint, with no risk.

Absolutely no streaks, because there's nothing to streak except water.

That's the beauty of MF is no chemicals.

I do, however, use Rain-X on the exterior. I keep 2-3 layers on there for a very slick finish.

For BUG JUICE........Meguiar's QD.......they just DISSOLVE! Try it...

no streaks form stoner invesible on tint. and it says that it's safe on lables. i have two brands of tint

1- 3M get little cloudy when i use SI, plus the color fade fast.

2- sungard no problems at all

Newspaper is great on the outside, but I'd be careful of using it on the tint. My dad did it once on one of his cars and scratched the film. Personally, I use Sprayway cleaner with great results and no streaking. I also use two towels: one for the first wipe and one for final buffing.

Thanks a lot for the welcome, tips, and tricks. I currently use a 50/50 mix of H20 and vinegar, but now that I know that it harms the tint its in the trash. I have also used Stoners invisiable glass before but like you guys mentioned, "The secret is in the MF towels." I will have to pick some up this weekend. Once again thanks for the tips....... I Love this site

Definitely, I wouldn' use the newspaper trick on the interior glass! Ooops. Forgot to clarify that!

Interior glass, distilled water and H20 can work perfectly if you keep on the glass weekly etc. 20/20 works well on the interior glass as well.

Also with news paper be very very careful cause the ink will run and could end up on your seats or something.
The ink will not come off of the paper if you use old newspaper!
