Window Cleaning w/Newspaper

I've read several post and it seems like some of you clean your windows with newspaper. What exactly is the procedure. Do you spray your windows with cleaner and take a regular newspaper and wipe dry? If so doesn't the ink come off on the windows. Just curious.

I think this was more effective in the past as the older inks had a benefit, but my feeling is that microfiber has better cleaning properties overall.

that's why they're called tinted windows :D -i think most people crumple the newspaper for wiping-not a bad use for pretty much useless news reporting;) but IMO a good microfiber works better

The main idea behind newsprint and glass cleaner is that almost all glass cleaner used to be ammonia based. That type of cleaner works best when dried completely. The newsprint soaked up the cleaner fast. Thus an urban legend was born.

I've used the cruppled newspaper on my glass. It works fine and doesn't streak in my experiences with it. I now use MFs, just because its easier.

I absolutely hated using newspapers. After they get all wet and such they start to break up and just a lot bigger hassle. Stick to a MF...so much easier and just as productive.

Paper towels and newspaper are formulated with adhesives, which class cleaners will break down leaving a tacky reside and paper â€Ëœlintâ€â„¢ on the glass surface. The inks used in newspaper print are now water-based (unlike the older oil-based they will not polish glass) But they will stain your hand black (they dissolve with body heat) so be careful what surfaces you touch after handling newspaper (fabric, leather, plastic, etc) as they may stain.

Buffing with newspaper is a last step that may or may not be necessary and you do this when the windows are completely dry.

There have been times when I thought my inside windshield was nice and clear and clean and then at late day with sun glaring I couldn't believe all the streaks that were there.

You crumple up the newspaper and rub off any remaining window streaks if you notice them after they have been cleaned. I find it works great.

I've been using a new (4 weeks) MF to clean the exterior windows of the car. Pretty happy. Yesterday, used my old standby EagleOne 20/20 and some newspaper sheets & did as good if not better job! It still is a great window cleaner combination. Plus, the newspaper is a buck and I am recycling in a way. For me it cleans & shines very well, that's all I want. :bow

I use Eagle 20/20 on the glass and wipe with a blue shop towel to spread it around and absorb most of the liquid. Then I take newspaper and finish it off. It gets the glass nice and clean with no smudges and when in rains the water beads up like it was just waxed.

Too much mess, too few results. Try MFs with weave like that of a Norwex towel from Detailer's Paradise and/or huck surgical cloths

I've become a chemist. I use denatured alcohol, white gas, mineral spirits, or anything else I can get my hands on, followed by something normal like the products mentioned already. Works like a charm, but I have no idea if there might be a problem with my aggressive approach.

That's one of my newest products, and yes, it does do quite well. Sometimes a bit too much foam emitted for my taste but it does a great job of annihilating any film.

I haven't been able to rule out needing to follow with a simple alcohol:water solution most of the time though.

Yall have to try the new Meguiar's Duo-Fiber glass towel. It's a perfect blend of MF and terry. It also doesn't leave any haze behind it. I highly recommend it!

I did the newspaper thing until last week. I broke down and bought some Stoners IG ($2.95 @Target) and used a MF...OMG!! Thats what the road looks like.
