Will the Ultimate Porter Cable Be Enough?

This August I put a deposit down for a new GTI with the agreement that the dealer would not prep my car when it arrives. This past Saturday I picked up the car and low and behold it was dealer prepped badly.

There are isolated scratches from what I presume would be a dirty towel that was used to dry or wipe wax off the car. While it is hard to capture with a point and shoot on a white car, the picture below is an example of the fine scratches on the car.

Will the Ultimate Porter Cable 7424 DA polisher combined with the Sonus line of pads and polishes be able to remove these scratches that the dealer so graciously put in my brand new car?

I am hoping/thinking that the Sonus SFX-2 pad with Sonus SFX-2 Enhance Swirl Remover polish will do the trick. Or do you think I would need to get more aggressive first (with polisher, pad, or products)?

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

The UDM will be able to remove these scratches. As always start eitht the least aggressive polish first and work up. I have not detailed a newer VW and not sure on how hard the clear coat is, however you should be able to remove the scratches.

I'd highly suggest M105/M205 if what you have doesn't work.

I'll have to pick them up. It looks like a lot of people have been using this combo. Can I get it in anything smaller than a 32oz bottle? Considering I have one meaningful car that I plan on polishing, I will be buried with the same bottle.

It's funny how I acquired all these products last month, but since I wasn't planning on having any scratches in my paint I don't have the right tools and products for the car. I do have the basic Porter Cable, but I think it has outlived its useful life. Plus the pads are old. So I think it is time to replace.

Perhaps an 8 oz bottle of System One (~$15) combined with a 4" light cut pad would work, e.g.an orange Cyclo double precision pad. Best of luck and Happy Thanksgiving.

If the PC still works, it will be fine. Unless you are doing this as a business, you don't really need more power. Get some new pads and some 205. I don't think you will really need 105 for those scratches, 205 will get them out if you take your time.

You can get 12oz. sample sizes from AutoDetailingSolutions.

I just ordered the sample size of M205 and M105, as well as the Mequiar's polishing and finishing pads. Thanks for pointing me to the right vendor as well as reminding me how much I miss the city of Pittsburgh. (Graduated from Pitt in '08)

I was going to get the XP during the Friday 30% off sale on Autopia, but I think I will wait and pick up the G110v2 once that is available. Besides my new car which I plan on doing the minor paint correction, I may use the buffer on my parent's cars when I am at their place at that is it. So I guess no need to buy the same thing.

i love my PC but my rotary cant be beat and makes thing easier

now days i use my PC to apply waxes and sealants...thats about it

Your just fine with the Sonus polishes. While I prefer the megs line, I have used the Sonus polishes with great success. Especially if you have the SFX1 yellow pad and the SFX2 white pad.

Enjoy the smells

SFX1 Bannana

SFX2 Coconut

SFX3 Blue Berry

The OP shouldn't consider a rotary if he already has a PC, plus if he already has the PC down, why learn how to use a rotary? There is really know point.

Back to the OP; I think that you would be find just sticking to your PC with some M105/M205 and different pads. I have a feeling you are going to need the M105, since some VW clears are ridiculously hard..

Really? I have had an impossible time with SFX1 and SFX2, even on super soft jet black BMW paint, with a PC and the sonus pads. There was little to no cut, even with SFX1.
