Especially hard water (High mineral content). Waxes as we know them arent really much of a "sufficient" barrier, but they are an "adequate" barrier for the daily onslaught of environemental issues presented on the road. Synthetics and Nubas are your first line defense offering some protection, and should be maintained on a cars surface every season at a minimum.
